Use of the supine position in femoral shaft nailing is useful in cases of ipsilateral hip fracture and when multiple injuries are present. The nail enters at the greater trochanter and then maintains an upright position parallel to the canal of the femur. This technique facilitates control of respiratory function and limits nerve compression complications.

The primary weight-bearing structure of the proximal femur, trabecular bone, has a complex three-dimensional architecture that was previously difficult to comprehensively display. This study examined the spatial architecture of trabecular struts in the coronal, sagittal, and horizontal sections of the proximal femur using 21 cases prepared with P45 sectional plasticization.
