Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during performance of a hidden figures task (HFT) was used to compare differences in brain function in children diagnosed with autism disorder (AD) compared to children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and typical controls (TC). Overall greater functional MRI activity was observed in the two control groups compared to children with AD. Laterality differences were also evident, with AD subjects preferentially showing activity in the right medial temporal region while controls tended to activate the left medial temporal cortex. Reduced fMRI activity was observed in the parietal, ventral-temporal and hippocampal regions in the AD group, suggesting differences in the way that children with AD process the HFT.

Background: Mobile, valid and engaging cognitive assessments are essential for detecting and tracking change in research participants and patients at risk for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRDs). This pilot study aims to determine the feasibility and generalizability of an at-home, app-based cognitive assessment, the mobile cognitive app performance platform (mCAPP), to detect cognitive changes associated with aging and preclinical AD.

Method: mCAPP includes three gamified tasks (Figure 1): (1) a "concentration" memory task that includes learning and matching hidden card pairs with increasing memory load, pattern separation features (lure vs.

The preservation of paper-based archival documents is crucial for safeguarding historical and cultural heritage. Some records possess visually inaccessible text or images because of previous conservation measures, their method of construction, or historic damage. Micro-spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (micro-SORS) has emerged as a promising method for probing below or through opaque material substrates non-invasively.

Article Synopsis
  • - Intraoperative Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) was helpful in diagnosing Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).
  • - Both Trans thoracic Echocardiography (TTE) and TEE improve the assessment of pulmonary insufficiency due to ventricular septal rupture (PI-VSR).
  • - Using multiple views and angles in echocardiography is effective for identifying dual shunts, and thorough examination of the ventricular septum is crucial.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hemorrhage is the main cause of preventable death in trauma situations, leading to military and civilian advancements in medical practices, particularly through the use of tourniquets to manage extremity bleeding and save lives.
  • - While tourniquets have significantly decreased deaths from bleeding in military settings, noncompressible hemorrhage still poses a major risk, especially before patients receive definitive medical care.
  • - The study explores using a small, disposable pressure monitor during resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) to enhance blood pressure monitoring, facilitate better resuscitation practices, and reduce the need for blood products in extreme environments.
