Second-harmonic generation using the type-II polarization configuration is demonstrated in quasi-phase-matched GaAs radicalAlGaAs superlattice waveguides. Phase-matching wavelengths and conversion efficiencies were determined for several quasi-phase-matching periods using 1.9 ps pulses. Saturation effects at high input power were concluded to be the result of third-order nonlinear effects.

Highly ordered nanocrystal (NC) assemblies, namely, superlattices (SLs), have been investigated as materials for optical and optoelectronic devices due to their unique properties based on interactions among neighboring NCs. In particular, lead halide perovskite NC SLs have attracted significant attention owing to their extraordinary optical characteristics of individual NCs and collective emission processes like superfluorescence (SF). So far, the primary method for preparing perovskite NC SLs has been the drying-mediated self-assembly method, in which the colloidal NCs spontaneously assemble into SLs during solvent evaporation.

Owing to its topological properties and band collapse, Floquet helical photonic lattices have gained increasing attention as a purely classical setting to realize the optical analogues of a wide variety of quantum phenomena. We demonstrate both theoretically and numerically that light propagation in an appropriately designed helical superlattice can exhibit spatial photonic Zitterbewegung effect, i.e.

In the last decade, momentous progress in lead halide perovskite (LHP) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is witnessed as their external quantum efficiency (η) has increased from 0.1 to more than 30%. Indeed, perovskite LEDs (PeLEDs), which can in principle reach 100% internal quantum efficiency as they are not limited by the spin-statistics, are reaching their full potential and approaching the theoretical limit in terms of device efficiency.

Two-dimensional materials give access to the ultimate physical limits of photonics with appealing properties for ultracompact optical components such as waveguides and modulators. Specifically, in monolayer semiconductors, a strong excitonic resonance leads to a sharp oscillation in permittivity from positive to even negative values. This extreme optical response enables surface exciton-polaritons to guide visible light bound to an atomically thin layer.

ConspectusAtomically precise metal nanoclusters, serving as an aggregation state of metal atoms, display unique physicochemical properties owing to their ultrasmall sizes with discrete electronic energy levels and strong quantum size effects. Such intriguing properties endow nanoclusters with potential utilization as efficient nanomaterials in catalysis, electron transfer, drug delivery, photothermal conversion, optical control, etc. With the assistance of atomically precise operations and theoretical calculations on metal nanoclusters, significant progress has been accomplished in illustrating their structure-performance correlations at the single-molecule level.
