The relationship between canine respiratory coronavirus (CRCoV) and canine influenza virus (CIV) seropositivity in dogs in Korea was examined. Sixty-two of the 483 samples (12.8%) were seropositive for CRCoV by indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) analysis. Nineteen animals were seropositive for CIV by ELISA out of the 385 samples tested. Serum antibodies for both viruses were detected in 6 of the 483 dogs sampled, suggesting that these viruses are present in dogs in Korea. Although the role of CRCoV in canine infectious tracheobronchitis has not been fully elucidated, co-infection with CIV may synergistically worsen respiratory clinical signs and result in more severe canine tracheobronchitis.

Positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) improves respiratory conditions. However, the complex interaction between PEEP and hemodynamics in heart failure patients makes it challenging to determine appropriate PEEP settings. In this study, we developed a framework for the impact of PEEP on hemodynamics considering cardiac function, by integrating the impact of PEEP in the generalized circulatory equilibrium framework, and validated the framework by assessing its ability to accurately predict PEEP-induced hemodynamics.

Cardiovascular and respiratory alterations during anesthesia are of major concern in canines. Thus, it is essential to understand the potential depressant effects of anesthetic drugs on cardio-vascular system; so that, anesthetic procedures are conducted in the best possible way. The objective of the study was to assess and compare the echocardiographic indices during dex-medetomidine and midazolam anesthesia in dogs undergoing elective ovariohysterectomy.

SARS-CoV-2 is the cause of mild to severe acute respiratory disease that led to significant loss of human lives worldwide between 2019 and 2022. The virus has been detected in various animals including cats and dogs making it a major public health concern and a One Health issue. In this study, conjunctival and pharyngeal swabs (n = 350) and serum samples (n = 350) were collected between July and December 2020 from cats that were housed in an animal shelter and tested for the infection of SARS-CoV-2 using real time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) that targeted the N1 and N2 genes, and a SARS-CoV-2 surrogate virus neutralization Test (sVNT), respectively.

Background: Lung ultrasound (LUS) is increasingly utilized in veterinary medicine to assess pulmonary conditions. However, the characterization of pleural line and subpleural fields using different ultrasound transducers, specifically high-frequency linear ultrasound transducers (HFLUT) and curvilinear transducers (CUT), remains underexplored in canine patients. This study aimed to evaluate inter-rater agreement in the characterization of pleural line and subpleural fields using B- and M-mode ultrasonography in dogs with and without respiratory distress.

Thoracic point-of-care ultrasound (T-POCUS) has grown in popularity and usage in small animal emergencies and critical care settings due to its non-invasive nature, mobility, and ability to acquire images in real time. This review summarizes current understanding about T-POCUS in dogs and cats with respiratory illnesses, including normal thoracic ultrasonography appearance and numerous pathological situations. The basics of T-POCUS are covered, including equipment, scanning procedures, and picture settings.
