Uranium poisoning, particularly from exposure to Depleted Uranium (DU), occurs when uranyl ions enter the bloodstream and bind primarily to transferrin, osteopontin, and albumin before entering cells via corresponding receptors on renal tubular membranes, leading to cellular damage. Uranium poisoning remains a significant clinical challenge, with no ideal treatment currently available. In this study, we investigate the therapeutic potential of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell exosomes (MSC-EXs) in mice exposed to DU.

Development of radiosensitizers with high-energy deposition efficiency, electron transfer, and oxidative stress amplification will help to improve the efficiency of radiotherapy. To overcome the drawbacks of radiotherapy alone, it is also crucial to design a multifunctional radiosensitizer that simultaneously realizes multimodal treatment and tumor microenvironment modulation. Herein, a multifunctional radiosensitizer based on the CuBiS-BP@PEI nanoheterostructure (NHS) for multimodal cancer treatment is designed.

Static cold storage of donor livers at 4 °C incompletely arrests metabolism, ultimately leading to decreases in ATP levels, oxidative stress, cell death, and organ failure. Hydrogen Sulfide (HS) is an endogenously produced gas, previously demonstrated to reduce oxidative stress, reduce ATP depletion, and protect from ischemia and reperfusion injury. HS is difficult to administer due to its rapid release curve, resulting in cellular death at high concentrations.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons and the accumulation of alpha-synuclein. Glutathione (GSH), a key antioxidant, is significantly depleted in PD patients. This study presents a dual-mode detection strategy for selectively determining GSH using a single probe.

The development of efficient therapeutic strategies to promote ferroptotic cell death offers significant potential for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment. Herein, this study presents an HCC-targeted nanoplatform that integrates bimetallic FeMoO nanoparticles with CO-releasing molecules, and further camouflaged with SP94 peptide-modified macrophage membrane for enhanced ferroptosis-driven multi-modal therapy of HCC. Leveraging the multi-enzyme activities of the multivalent metallic elements, the nanoplatform not only decomposes HO to generate oxygen and alleviate tumor hypoxia but also depletes glutathione to inactivate glutathione peroxides 4, which amplify sonodynamic therapy and ferroptotic tumor death under ultrasound (US) irradiation.
