It is an interesting issue to study the prevalence of hepatitis C and B viruses in Egypt in the last decade. In this study, the overall hepatitis B surface antigen and antibody to hepatitis C virus prevalence were 1.65% and 9.02%, respectively. Antibody to hepatitis C virus and hepatitis B surface antigen prevalence estimates dropped from 11.06% to 6.3% (P = .001) and 1.24% to 1.17% (P = .2), respectively.

Tenofovir vs. Entecavir on the prognosis of hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma patients after liver resection: the role of HBsAg levels.

Clin Transl Gastroenterol

January 2025

Division of Liver Surgery, Department of General Surgery, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.

Background: Our study aimed to explore whether hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) levels affected the role of nucleot(s)ide analog treatment (entecavir (ETV) and tenofovir (TDF)) in improving the prognosis of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients after liver resection.

Methods: A total of 865 HBV-related HCC patients after hepatectomy treated with TDF or ETV were included in our study. Patients were divided into the high HBsAg cohort (n=681) and the low HBsAg cohort (n=184).

Background And Aims: The aim of this systematic literature review (SLR) was to examine outcomes and associated predictors following nucleos(t)ide analog (NA) treatment cessation in adult patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection.

Methods: The SLR was conducted according to PRISMA methodology. All included studies were quality assessed using appropriate scales or checklists.

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) surface antigen (HBsAg) seroprevalence was high before the national vaccine policy was introduced in Taiwan, indicating significant HBV infection rates. The success of the HBV immunization program and other preventive measures likely led to decreased HBsAg prevalence among pregnant women. This study reports on the HBV seroprevalence among pregnant women in Taiwan from 2016 to 2021, including those potentially affected by the universal hepatitis B vaccination at birth.

Serum O-glycosylated HBsAg levels correlate with HBV RNA in HBeAg positive CHB patients during antiviral therapy.

Antiviral Res

January 2025

Department of Infectious Diseases, Research Laboratory of Clinical Virology, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, 200025, China. Electronic address:

Background: Recent evidence has indicated that the O-glycosylated PreS2 domain of the middle HBsAg is a distinguishing characteristic that allows the identification of HBsAg of HBV Dane particles and SVPs. This study's objective was to assess the changes in serum O-glycosylated HBsAg levels in CHB patients undergoing ETV or Peg-IFNα treatment.

Methods: Our retrospective study enrolled 86 patients with genotype C CHB.

Development of a sandwich-type electrochemical DNA sensor based on CeO/AuPt nanoprobes for highly sensitive detection of hepatitis B virus DNA.

Bioelectrochemistry

January 2025

The Key Laboratory of Biomedical Material, School of Life Science and Technology, Xinxiang Medical University, Xinxiang 453003 China. Electronic address:

To provide accurate diagnostic evidence for early hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection-related diseases, this study targeted HBV DNA as an analyte, where a sandwich-type electrochemical DNA sensor based on gold nanoparticles/reduced graphene oxide (Au NPs/ERGO) and cerium oxide/gold-platinum nanoparticles (CeO/AuPt NPs) was constructed. Au NPs/ERGO composite nanomaterials were first synthesized on the surface of a glass carbon electrode using electrochemical co-reduction, which significantly improved the specific surface area and electrical conductivity of the electrode. Further specific hybridization of target HBV-DNA was performed by combining capture probe DNA (S1-DNA) bound to AuNPs/ERGO with CeO/AuPt modified signal probe DNA (S2-DNA).
