Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious postoperative complication in patients undergoing cardiac surgery and its incidence is particularly high among elderly patients. Cardiac surgery-associated AKI (CSA-AKI) represents the second most common cause of AKI in the intensive care unit but its true incidence could be underestimated, especially in elderly population. The current biomarkers of AKI are unreliable and delayed during acute changes in kidney function.

Background And Aims: We aimed to study subclinical non-invasive vascular markers as predictors of incident long-term cognitive impairment in a longitudinal population-based study.
Methods: The Barcelona-Asymptomatic Intracranial Atherosclerosis (AsIA) study is a population-based study that included a random sample of 933 Caucasian subjects (mean age 66 years, 64% male) with a moderate-high vascular risk and without history of stroke or dementia. Subclinical carotid and intracranial stenosis was assessed at baseline visit by cervical and transcranial color-coded duplex (TCCD) and confirmed by magnetic resonance angiography.

Context: Controversial data exist on cardiovascular damages in patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH).
Objective: To assess blood pressure and early cardiovascular damages on a large cohort of adult CAH patients and control individuals.
Design: Case-control study.

Intermittent hypoxia and ventilatory intermittence due to sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea can lead to cardiac arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, conductance disturbances and cardiac failure. Sub-clinical and overt hypothyroidism is an important physiopathological complex that is linked with cardiovascular risk, alteration of lipidic profile promoting atherogenic mechanisms. The two pathologies combined can exponentially increase the cardiovascular event risk.
