Background: Apple skins are a rich source of flavonols, in particular quercetin (Q) glycosides. The objective of the present study was to investigate the presence of Q metabolites in plasma, various tissues, and excreta when the commercial broiler chicken's diet was supplemented with Q (0, 50, 150, 300, or 600 mg kg(-1) body weight per day), an apple skin extract (ASE; 50, 150 mg total phenolics kg(-1) body weight per day), or a dried apple skin powder (ASP; 50 mg total phenolics kg(-1) body weight per day).
Results: When Q was supplemented for 3 days, Q sulfate, Q glucuronide, Q glucoside glucuronide, Q glucoside sulfate, and isorhamnetin glucoside were detected by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry in the liver and duodenum. Deconjugated Q was also detected in the breast and thigh tissues of ASE- and ASP-supplemented broilers. Regardless of the source or concentration of Q, the antioxidant capacity measured by ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) assay in the plasma and tissues of the broilers did not change significantly.
Conclusions: As far as is known, this is the first report to demonstrate that Q and its glycosides can be absorbed and metabolized by broiler chickens.

Background: The Apple Watch provides promising health data that could aid in increasing exercise adherence; regular exercise can help individuals manage and prevent diseases such as obesity and cardiovascular disease. However, the impact of skin pigmentation on the accuracy of the Apple Watch Series 9 for measures of energy expenditure (EE) and heart rate (HR) is unknown.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of the Apple Watch Series 9 on various skin pigmentations for measures of EE and HR.

Four versions of the novel Moletest on-device signal-processing analysis software, delivered on a single-application iPadPro11, were evaluated in pigmented skin lesions of patients sent for biopsy comparing its results with the lesion histology. The primary objective was to demonstrate that the nomela test provided at least 95 ± 2% sensitivity for not-melanoma. Proprietary software recognised the lesion perimeter, rejecting images with uncertain border, and performed analysis using non-scalar metrics of the image within the perimeter.

The impact of cultivar and production system was studied over two years on organoleptic and nutritional characteristics of apple fruits and then, on purees processed with both conventional convection cooking under vacuum and fast innovative microwave cooking. The main factors affecting the content and composition of sugars, organic acids, volatiles, polyphenols, and fibre were in the decreasing order, cultivar, year, and production system. Regarding processing, the fast innovative microwave cooking led to puree with a higher viscosity but with a lower polyphenol content compared to the convection cooking.

The target of breeding red-fleshed apples is to increase their potential health benefits related to red flesh coloration and consumer acceptance. The objective of this study was to determine the usefulness of four clones (90, 120, 156, and 158) of red-fleshed apples for freeze-drying compared to the cultivar 'Trinity'. Red-fleshed apples were dried in the form of slices using a laboratory freeze-dryer.

Introduction: Though wrist-worn photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors play an important role in long-term and continuous heart rhythm monitoring, signals measured at the wrist are contaminated by more intense motion artifacts compared to other body locations. Machine learning (ML)-based algorithms can improve long-term pulse rate (PR) tracking but are associated with more stringent regulatory requirements when intended for clinical use. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of a digital health technology using wrist-worn PPG sensors and an ML-based algorithm to measure PR continuously.
