Bioactive components in the diet influence our health and well-being beyond that of simple supply of energy and raw materials for biochemical reactions. However, the complex chemistry and composition of our food does not make the identification of potential bioactive components a straightforward task. Bioassays for a multitude of functionalities have to be performed for thousands of different food-derived molecules in order to identify important interactions. Our approach is to directly identify those food molecules that interact with cellular targets based on mass spectrometric (MS) techniques through immobilization of cellular target molecules on glass chips and incubation with various foods. Food-derived molecules that bind with high affinity can then be directly analyzed by MS. We have chosen bovine colostrum, a potent bioactive food, and cellular receptors of the innate immune response as our model for proof of concept.

Drone larvae (DL) has many biological activities thanks to the bioactive components it contains, but there are very few studies on its antimicrobial activity. The aim of this research was to determine the antifungal activity of DL (raw and lyophilised) water and ethanol extracts against fluconazole (FLU) sensitive and resistant yeast strains. The 87 fungal strains obtained from clinical samples were identified by phenotypic and molecular methods, and broth microdilution test was used for antifungal activity.

Yak milk powders collected from different lactation periods exhibit distinct flavors, but no studies have thoroughly investigated the aroma characteristics and variation patterns of yak milk powders across these periods. In the present study, we analyzed the bioactive curcuminoids content in eight capsules (DS-1-DS-7 and DS-9), one tablet (DS-8), three ground turmeric samples (DS-10-DS-12), and three ground turmeric rhizomes (TR-1, TR-2, and TR-3). Initial screening with infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy coupled with a principal component analysis (PCA) revealed distinct differences between the samples analyzed. Hence, targeted and untargeted analyses were performed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry detections.

Herpes viruses are highly contagious agents affecting all classes of vertebrates, thus causing serious health, social, and economic losses.
