To develop novel bifunctional agents for tumor imaging (MR) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), certain tumor-avid photosensitizers derived from chlorophyll-a were conjugated with variable number of Gd(III)aminobenzyl DTPA moieties. All the conjugates containing three or six gadolinium units showed significant T(1) and T(2) relaxivities. However, as a bifunctional agent, the 3-(1'-hexyloxyethyl)pyropheophorbide-a (HPPH) containing 3Gd(III) aminophenyl DTPA was most promising with possible applications in tumor-imaging and PDT. Compared to HPPH, the corresponding 3- and 6Gd(III)aminobenzyl DTPA conjugates exhibited similar electronic absorption characteristics with a slightly decreased intensity of the absorption band at 660 nm. However, compared to HPPH, the excitation of the broad "Soret" band (near 400 nm) of the corresponding 3Gd(III)aminobenzyl-DTPA analogues showed a significant decrease in the fluorescence intensity at 667 nm.

This study introduces a series of water-soluble radical dendrimers (G0 to G5) as promising magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents that could potentially address clinical safety concerns associated with current gadolinium-based contrast agents. By using a simplified synthetic approach based on a cyclotriphosphazene core and lysine-derived branching units, we successfully developed a G5 dendrimer containing up to 192 units of 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidinyloxy (TEMPO) radical. This synthesis offers advantages including ease of preparation, purification, and tunable water solubility through the incorporation of glutamic acid anion residues.

Toxic effects in terms of mitochondria and hereditary substances have been characterized in vitro for individual rare earth elements, while, the joint effects of mixed elements exposure in the population remain ambiguous. Based on the Occupational Chromate Exposure Dynamic Cohort of China, this study investigated the relationship between 15 blood rare earth elements (cerium, dysprosium, erbium, europium, gadolinium, holmium, lanthanum, lutetium, neodymium, praseodymium, samarium, terbium, thulium, yttrium, and ytterbium) and mitochondrial DNA copy number (MtDNACN) as well as peripheral blood lymphocyte micronucleus frequency (MNF). The elastic net was used to select elements highly correlated with effect indicators, whose dose-response relationships were further illustrated by restricted cubic splines.

Objective: The degenerative disc disease has a multifactorial etiology and mechanical stress is one of the most important etiological factor. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the intervertebral disc (IVD) after axial stress diminution from the point of view of its proteoglycan (PG) content, with preoteoglicans (PGs) being very important in the normal function but also in the degenerative or regenerative processes.
Methods: This is a single-center, prospective, non-randomized study of 38 degenerated intervertebral discs treated with monosegmental or polisegmental posterior lumbar spinal fixation in 27 patients.

Background: The recent shortage of iodine-based intravenous contrast and its cost highlight the need for limiting dose and alterative agents.
Purpose: To quantify radiodensity (Hounsfield Units, HU) improvement and potential iodine dose reduction with low keV imaging compared to conventional polyenergetic reconstructions on dual source (DSCT) and dual layer (DLCT) CT and to assess potential utility of non-iodine gadolinium-alternatives with low keV imaging.
Materials And Methods: This phantom study used dilutions of three commercially-available contrast agents scanned by DSCT and DLCT.
