Panic disorder (PD) is characterised by sudden attacks of intense fear with somatic symptoms including palpitations and tachycardia. Reciprocally, palpitations caused by paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) are commonly associated with anxiety and may therefore be misdiagnosed as PD. As demonstrated by two case reports, PSVT and PD can occur comorbidly in a chronological sequence, with PSVT possibly precipitating and maintaining PD via interoceptive processes or, alternatively, with PD increasing the risk for PSVT by elevating stress levels. As both PSVT and PD require different treatments, potentially helpful differential clinical diagnostic criteria are proposed.

Department of Cardiology (F.L., A.G., H.H., K.C., Q.Y., X.P., S.C., J.J., H.F., H.W., T.Y., X.H., Y.T., Q. Zhang, R.Z.), , West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Chengdu.

Background: Pulsed field ablation (PFA) has gained attention in cardiac electrophysiology, but data on its application to paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia are limited. This study aimed to assess the feasibility and safety of PFA and its combination with radiofrequency ablation for treating paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.

Methods: A prospective, multicenter, single-arm study was conducted across 8 centers in China.

Inherited cardiac channelopathies are major causes of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in young people. Genetic testing is focused on the identification of single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) by Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). However, genetically elusive cases can carry copy number variants (CNVs), which need specific detection tools.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine if high levels of high-sensitivity troponin-T (hs-TnT) in patients with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) but no known cardiovascular disease increase the risk of death.
  • Researchers reviewed data from 1,203 patients hospitalized from 2013 to 2020, finding that 65.8% had elevated hs-TnT levels.
  • Results showed significantly higher short-term mortality (within 30 days) for patients with elevated hs-TnT, but long-term mortality (31-365 days) differences were not significant and may need further study.
