The advancement of immunocytochemistry (ICC) allows one to observe detailed spatial distribution of cellular antigens, but, with some limitations. Using conventional ICC, it is difficult to distinguish the nuclear localization from cytoplasm, as two large subcellular compartments overlap on the z-axis. In this study, we have investigated whether in situ immunostaining of 'naked' nuclei could provide an unambiguous method for detection of nuclear antigens. We have designed a protocol that efficiently lyses plasmalemma, while keeping the nuclear envelope intact. The optimal condition for lysing the plasmalemma was 0.5% Nonidet P-40 for 5 min in both neuronal and non-neuronal cultured cells. Using this protocol, we could unambiguously isolate nuclear from cytoplasmic ICC signals. Since the present protocol has been designed for immunostaining of 'naked' nuclei from cultured or isolated cells, we have coined a new term to refer to this procedure as 'immunonucleochemistry' ('INC' for abbreviation).

Spindle cell lipoma (SCL) is a rare form of lipoma, typically occurring as a mass in the back, shoulder or posterior neck of adult males. Most cases present little diagnostic difficulty on fine needle aspiration (FNA), but can be problematic when the SCL is in an unusual location. The authors report a case in the parotid gland in a 75-year-old man.

Background: Recognizing the parathyroid gland and distinguishing the parathyroid from thyroid lesions in fine needle aspiration (FNA) is challenging. This study aimed to identify cytomorphologic features suggestive of parathyroid origin and to assess the utility of cytopathology in conjunction with ancillary tests in the identification of parathyroid glands.
Materials And Methods: Ultrasound (US) guided FNA of parathyroid gland and lesions in 81 patients were reviewed concerning clinical history and correlated to histopathologic findings in available cases.

Objective: This study aimed to describe the cytological features of neuroendocrine breast tumors and to show the effect of the extent of neuroendocrine differentiation on cytological features.
Methods: Breast tumor excision materials showing immunostaining with neuroendocrine markers (Synaptophysin or Chromogranin A) were determined and divided into two groups: cases with focal (10%-50% of tumor cells) staining and cases with diffuse (>50% of tumor cells) staining. A group of cases without neuroendocrine features/staining was used as control group.
