Ectopic intratracheal thyroid (EITT) is a rare abnormality, with few cases reported in the literature. We describe a case of a 36-year-old woman with dyspnea due to EITT. We also discuss the epidemiology, etiologies, presentation, diagnosis, and management of EITT. Because EITT is a rare cause of airway obstruction, we hope to remind the clinician of it by presenting this case.

Article Synopsis
  • Intratracheal ectopic thyroid tissue is a rare condition resulting in various symptoms like swallowing difficulties and breathing issues, making diagnosis challenging.
  • The study highlights the importance of thyroid scintigraphy and SPECT/CT imaging in diagnosing and managing a patient with both follicular carcinoma and symptomatic ectopic thyroid tissue.
  • The case discussed involves the ectopic tissue causing coughing and airway obstruction, which was initially mistaken for a subglottic mass.

Background: Abnormal lipid metabolism has recently been reported as a crucial signature of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). However, the origin and biological function of the lipid and possible mechanisms of increased lipid content in the pathogenesis of IPF remains undetermined.

Methods: Oil-red staining and immunofluorescence analysis were used to detect lipid accumulation in mouse lung fibrosis frozen sections, Bleomycin-treated human type II alveolar epithelial cells (AECIIs) and lung fibroblast.

Article Synopsis
  • Thyroglossal Duct Cyst (TDC) is a common neck lesion found in children, usually needing surgery to prevent complications; this case involved a newborn diagnosed incidentally.
  • A 3-week-old boy was admitted for weight loss and vomiting, and while preparing for surgery for a different issue, a neck mass was discovered, which was identified as TDC via ultrasound.
  • The authors emphasize the importance of physical exams and ultrasounds for proper diagnosis, suggest surgery (Sistrunk's procedure) if other surgery is needed, and note that most neonatal cases of TDC are symptomatic.

NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is closely related to silica particle‑induced chronic lung inflammation but its role in epithelial remodeling, repair and regeneration in the distal lung during development of silicosis remains to be elucidated. The present study aimed to determine the effects of the NLRP3 inflammasome on epithelial remodeling and cellular regeneration and potential mechanisms in the distal lung of silica‑treated mice at three time points. Pulmonary function assessment, inflammatory cell counting, enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assay, histological and immunological analyses, hydroxyproline assay and western blotting were used in the study.
