Exploring Patients' Acceptance of Mental Health E-services in Morocco: A Quantitative Approach.

Cureus

December 2024

Clinical Neurosciences and Mental Health Laboratory, Hassan II University, Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, Casablanca, MAR.

Background The transformative potential of technology in addressing mental healthcare challenges is more widely acknowledged in Morocco. The government has taken active measures to address persistent mental health challenges and provide better care by exploring innovative digital solutions. Several e-health services initiatives have been implemented, including electronic health record systems, telemedicine services, e-appointment systems, and mobile health applications.

Background: The prompt and accurate identification of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is crucial for preventing its progression into more severe neurodegenerative diseases. However, current diagnostic solutions, such as biomarkers and cognitive screening tests, prove costly, time-consuming, and invasive, hindering patient compliance and the accessibility of these tests. Therefore, exploring a more cost-effective, efficient, and noninvasive method to aid clinicians in detecting MCI is necessary.

Background: The worldwide rise in the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases has increased the recognition of the need to identify modifiable risk factors for preventing and managing these diseases. The office worker, as a representative group of physically inactive workers, is exposed to risk factors for metabolic syndrome, which is a primary driver of noncommunicable diseases. The use of virtual reality (VR) exergames may offer a potential solution to the problem of increasing noncommunicable disease prevalence, as it can help individuals increase their physical activity levels while providing a more immersive experience.

Two ligands of Arp2/3 complex, yeast coronin and GMF, interact and synergize in pruning branched actin networks.

J Biol Chem

January 2025

Department of Biology, Rosenstiel Basic Medical Science Research Center, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, USA. Electronic address:

The rapid turnover of branched actin networks underlies key in vivo processes such as lamellipodial extension, endocytosis, phagocytosis, and intracellular transport. However, our understanding of the mechanisms used to dissociate, or 'prune', branched filaments has remained limited. Glia maturation factor (GMF) is a cofilin family protein that binds to Arp2/3 complex and catalyzes branch dissociation.

Higher plasma total tau concentrations among patients reporting CNS-related side effects from antiseizure medication.

Seizure

January 2025

Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden; Department of Neurology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, member of ERN Epicare, Gothenburg, Sweden; Wallenberg Center of Molecular and Translational Medicine, Gothenburg University, Sweden.

Background: Side effects from antiseizure medication (ASM) are common in epilepsy but biomarkers for detection and monitoring are missing. This study investigated associations between CNS-related side effects from ASM and blood concentrations of the brain injury markers neurofilament-light (NFL), total tau, glial acidic fibrillary protein (GFAP), S100 calcium-binding protein B (S100B) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE).

Methods: This is a population-based cohort study of adults with epilepsy recruited from five Swedish outpatient neurology clinics from December 2020 to April 2023.
