A "multisegment amphiphile" has been synthesized by covalently connecting two well known building blocks, a gelator and a micelle forming surfactant. Self-assembly results in the formation of compartmentalized nano-object displaying properties inherited from both parents.

Purpose: Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary ocular malignancy. The size and location of the tumor are decisive for brachytherapy with the β-emitting ruthenium-106 (Ru-106) plaque. The treatment of juxtapapillary and juxtafoveolar UM may be challenging because of the proximity or involvement of the macula and optic nerve and high recurrence rates.

Manipulating the optical landscape of single quantum dots (QDs) is essential to increase the emitted photon output, enhancing their performance as chemical sensors and single-photon sources. Micro-optical structures are typically used for this task, with the drawback of a large size compared to the embedded single emitters. Nanophotonic architectures hold the promise to modify dramatically the emission properties of QDs, boosting light-matter interactions at the nanoscale, in ultracompact devices.

Purpose: Research on the safety and efficacy of del Nido cardioplegia in adult patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is limited. We evaluated the effect of del Nido cardioplegia on early outcomes of cardiac surgery in this cohort.

Methods: PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched through August 2024 to conduct a meta-analysis comparing del Nido to other cardioplegia in adult patients with reduced LVEF (≤50%).

Bacterial genomes contain a plethora of secondary replicons of divergent size. Circular replicons must carry a system for resolving dimeric forms, resulting from recombination between sister copies. These systems use site-specific recombinases.

: With the rapid increase in the aging population, the number of patients complaining of shoulder pain is also increasing. Among shoulder ailments, rotator cuff tears (RCTs) are most frequently observed in middle-aged and elderly individuals. Sarcopenia refers to the decline in muscle mass (lean body mass) and the subsequent decrease in muscle function that is linked to the natural aging process.
