: Digital diagnostic waxing is a contemporary alternative to the conventional wax-up method. This study aims to evaluate the impact of both techniques on the perceived frontal symmetry in aesthetic treatment planning. Dental symmetry significantly influences smile perception and, consequently, the acceptance of treatment outcomes, highlighting its clinical importance in restorative dentistry.

Objective: This clinical case describes a multidisciplinary retreatment of a patient with anterior fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) using minimally invasive restorations and a biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT).

Clinical Considerations: A 56-year-old female patient, treated 30 years ago with a metal-ceramic FDP due to dental agenesis, presented a misfit prosthesis at the gingival margin, black spaces, and food retention at the pontics. Notably, tooth number 2.

DDP1, encoding a β-Ketoacyl-CoA Synthase, regulates rice anther dehiscence and pollen fertility by affecting the deposition of lipid on anther epidermis and pollen wall. Anther dehiscence and pollen fertility are crucial for male fertility in rice. Here, we studied the function of Defective in Dehiscence and Pollen1 (DDP1), a novel member of the KCS family in rice, in regulating anther dehiscence and pollen fertility.

Article Synopsis
  • BoORP3a is an oxysterol-binding protein in the endoplasmic reticulum that potentially plays a role in cuticular wax deposition in ornamental kale.
  • RNA sequencing revealed 223 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between wild-type plants and those overexpressing BoORP3a, indicating significant metabolic pathway alterations related to lipid and wax synthesis.
  • The study suggests BoORP3a influences lipid metabolism, which could have important implications for breeding and improving ornamental kale.

Objective: This case report describes a multidisciplinary approach using a digital wax-up to fabricate a gingivectomy and crown lengthening guides, to reshape a lateral incisor into a central incisor and improve overall esthetics.

Clinical Considerations: Comprehensive treatment planning is crucial when executing a multidisciplinary workflow, with digital tools proving to be invaluable aids. In the present case, a digitally designed wax-up was employed to generate a digital surgical guide for reshaping the gingival architecture of a lateral incisor into that of a central incisor, followed by composite restorations.
