Objective: To screen the tumor markers of laryngeal carcinoma and to investigate their expression in preoperative and postoperative serum.
Method: The distinct protein in serum was detected in 32 cases of laryngeal carcinoma and 38 healthy people by IMAC-Cu proteinchip array and surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS). The distinct proteins in serum were detected in 32 cases of laryngeal carcinoma preoperation and within 10 days 15 cases of laryngeal carcinoma postoperation with the same methods. The discriminatory profiling between preoperative and postoperative patients was analyzed by Biomarker Wizard software and Biomarker Pattern software.
Result: The results showed that fifteen differentially expressed proteins in serum were screened by analysis of proteomic spectra of preoperative patients and normal subjects. Seventeen kinds of protein differentially expressed in serum were screened by analysis of proteomic spectra of preoperative and postoperative patients. Six kinds of protein (2958.52, 3796.89, 5148.86, 6115.57, 4052.18, and 7770.76) were obtained for making up patterns that was able to class the preoperative-team and postoperative-team. Corresponding correct ratio were 84.38% (27/32) and 73.33% (11/15).
Conclusion: The preliminary results suggest that classification system will provide a highly accurate and innovative approach for the early diagnosis of laryngeal carcinoma and judgement of prognosis. SELDI-TOF-MS technology is a useful tool for a high throughput screening of large-sized serum samples to discover potential biomarkers for laryngeal carcinoma.

Despite being designated as "noncarcinogenic" human papillomavirus (HPV) types, mono-infection with HPV6 or HPV11 has been found in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) at specific sites, including the larynx, penis, anus, and rarely, the lower female genital tract. The association between clinicopathologic features, viral status, and the carcinogenic mechanisms related to these low-risk HPVs remains unclear. The current study characterizes a series of low-risk HPV6 and HPV11-associated SCCs of the uterine cervix (6 cases) and vulva (2 cases).

Background: Adding pembrolizumab, an anti-PD-1 antibody approved for treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) to neoadjuvant (induction-) chemotherapy utilizing docetaxel and cisplatin (TP) followed by radiotherapy may improve outcome in larynx organ-preservation (LOP) that is investigated in the European Larynx-Organ preservation Study (ELOS). As biomarkers for response to TP and pembrolizumab +TP are missing but may include cytokines, this work aims on determining cytokines potentially linked to outcome as prognostic markers sufficient to predict and/or monitor response to successful LOP.
Methods: Collagenase IV digests were generated from 47 histopathological confirmed HNSCC tumor samples and seeded in 96-well plates containing pembrolizumab, docetaxel, cisplatin either solely or in binary or ternary combination.

Background: The advanced stage of cancer is a determining factor in poor prognosis. Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) are highly incident in Brazil, but similarly to many Low and Middle-Income Countries, data is limited regarding the proportion of tumours diagnosed at advanced clinical stages and the main factors associated with it. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the factors associated with advanced stage of HNSCC in Brazil.

Background: Airway obstruction secondary to chyle leak is an exceptionally rare phenomenon. Here, we describe this complication in a patient with anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) undergoing consolidative surgery after BRAF-targeted therapy.
Methods: A 55-year-old man presented with a rapidly enlarging neck mass.

Objective: TRIB3 has been confirmed to participate in and regulate biological metabolic activities in head and neck tumors such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma and oropharyngeal carcinoma, so the purpose of this study was to explore whether there is a correlation between TRIB3 and Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (LSCC) and to preliminarily explore the biological characteristics of TRIB3 in LSCC.
Methods: TRIB3 expression in the LSCC was analyzed based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. CCK-8 assay, Colony Formation Assay, wound healing assay, and Transwell assay were performed to investigate the roles of TRIB3 in the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of LSCC.
