We report bottom contact organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) with various surface treatments based on n-channel materials, specifically, 1,4,5,8-naphthalene-teracarboxylic diimides (NTCDIs) with three different fluorinated N-substituents, systematically studied with a particular emphasis on the interplay between the morphology of the organic semiconductor films and the electrical device properties. The morphological origins of the improvements were directly and dramatically visualized at the semiconductor-contact interface. As a result of a series of treatments, a large range of performances of bottom contact side-chain-fluorinated NTCDI OFETs (mobility from 1 x 10(-6) to 8 x 10(-2) cm(2)/(V s), on/off ratio from 1 x 10(2) to 1 x 10(5)) were obtained. The surface treatments enabled systems that had shown essentially no OFET activity without electrode modification activity to perform nearly as well as top contact devices made from the same materials. In addition, for the fresh bottom contact NTCDI device, the effect of gate bias stress on the tens-of-minutes time scale, during which the threshold voltage (V(t)) shifted and relaxed with similar time constants, was observed.

Wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells (PVSCs), a promising top-cell candidate for high-performance tandem solar cells, often suffer from larger open-circuit voltage (V) deficits as the bandgap increases. Surface passivation is a common strategy to mitigate these V deficits. However, understanding the mechanisms underlying the differences in passivation effects among various types of molecules remains limited, which is crucial for developing universal interface passivation strategies and guiding the design of passivation molecules.

Car tyres are considered to release a substantial amount of particles to the environment. Due to the high emission volumes and the chemical risks associated with tyre rubber, there is an urgent need to quantify their ecotoxicological effects. The effects of exposure to particles derived from end-of-life tyres were investigated on the Baltic clam (Macoma balthica), which is one of the key invertebrate species living in the soft-bottom sediments of the northern Baltic Sea.

Nanoscale semiconductors offer significant advantages over their bulk semiconductor equivalents for electronic devices as a result of the ability to geometrically tune electronic properties, the absence of internal grain boundaries, and the very low absolute number of defects that are present in such small volumes of material. However, these advantages can only be realized if reliable contacts can be made to the nanoscale semiconductor using a scalable, low-cost process. Although there are many low-cost "bottom-up" techniques for directly growing nanomaterials, the fabrication of contacts at the nanoscale usually requires expensive and slow techniques like e-beam lithography that are also hard to scale to a level of throughput that is required for commercialization.

Multifunctional dual-layer wound dressings hold significant promise for comprehensive full-thickness wound management by closely mimicking the native skin structure and features. Herein, we employed an innovative approach utilizing electrospinning techniques to develop a dual-layer dressing comprising a microfibrous Ecoflex®-Vanillin (Ex-Vnil) top layer (TL) and a nanofibrous Soluplus®-Insulin-like growth factor-1 (Sol-IGF1) bottom layer (BL). The tensile properties of dual-layer wound dressings were within the standard range for use in skin tissue regeneration.

Numerous studies have highlighted bottom-contact fishing gears as the primary threat to vulnerable marine ecosystems (VMEs). In November 2022, the European Commission closed 87 VME protection polygons to bottom fishing in European waters. Using public automatic identification system (AIS) data, we found an 81% decrease in bottom-contact fishing effort within these areas in the year following the closures.
