Background: Studies in Western populations have shown the benefits of pretreatment with atorvastatin in preventing cardiovascular events in patients, including those with acute coronary syndromes (ACS), undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, data concerning the value of such therapy in Asian patients are limited. The primary objective of the present study is to evaluate the efficacy of atorvastatin in reducing cardiovascular outcomes in Asian patients with non-ST-segment elevation (NSTE)-ACS following hospital admission for early PCI (within 72 h of the onset of symptoms). Secondary objectives are to assess the effects of atorvastatin on cardiac biomarker levels, and the safety and tolerability profile of atorvastatin.
Methods: This study is a prospective, multicenter, open-label trial designed to enroll 350 statin-naïve patients with NSTE-ACS scheduled for PCI in China and the Republic of Korea. Patients are randomized to either usual care or atorvastatin treatment groups, with patients in both treatment groups receiving usual care including atorvastatin 40 mg/day for 30 days post-PCI. Patients in the atorvastatin group receive additional doses of atorvastatin 80 mg at 12 h pre-PCI and 40 mg at 2 h pre-PCI. The primary end point is the incidence of major adverse cardiac events (death, myocardial infarction, and target vessel revascularization) at 30 days post-PCI.
Conclusions: The present study will provide valuable insights into whether the benefits of atorvastatin pretreatment extend to Asian patients with ACS undergoing interventions. Enhanced treatment of these patients will be an important contribution towards alleviating the increasing burden of cardiovascular disease in Asian countries.

Continuous surveillance is critical for early intervention against emerging novel SARS-CoV-2 variants. Therefore, we investigated and compared the variant-specific evolutionary epidemiology of all the Delta and Omicron sequences collected between 2021 and 2023 in Kuwait. We used Bayesian phylodynamic models to reconstruct, trace, and compare the two variants' demographics, phylogeographic, and host characteristics in shaping their evolutionary epidemiology.

: Pathophysiological variability in patients with cancer is associated with differences in responses to pharmacotherapy. In this work, we aimed to describe the demographic characteristics and hematological, biochemical, and coagulation variables in a large oncology cohort and to develop, optimize, and provide open access to modeling equations for the estimation of variables potentially relevant in pharmacokinetic modeling. : Using data from 1793 patients with cancer, divided into training ( = 1259) and validation ( = 534) datasets, a modeling network was developed and used to simulate virtual oncology populations.

: The ketogenic diet (KD) is widely used for weight management by reducing appetite, enhancing fat oxidation, and facilitating weight loss. However, the high content of total and saturated fats in a conventional KD may elevate low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol levels, a known risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, highlighting the need for healthier alternatives. This study aimed to investigate the effect of a newly developed Healthy Ketogenic Diet (HKD) versus an Energy-Restricted Diet (ERD) on weight loss and metabolic outcomes among adults with obesity.

: The anterolateral bowing of the femur shows differences between races and has recently caused many clinical problems. Asians tend to have increased femoral bowing, but there is a lack of large-scale studies. We aim to identify the patterns of femoral bowing in the Korean population through comprehensive analysis and address its clinical implications.

Molecular profiles can predict which patients will respond to current standard treatment and new targeted therapy regimens. Using data from a highly diverse population of approximately three million in Southeast London and Kent, this study aims to evaluate the prevalence of IDH1 mutation and MGMT promoter methylation in the gliomas diagnosed in adult patients and to explore correlations with patients' demographic and clinicopathological characteristics. Anonymised data on 749 adult patients diagnosed with a glioma in 2015-2019 at King's College Hospital were extracted.
