AI Article Synopsis

  • Cutaneous leishmaniasis in Surinam is usually caused by Leishmania guyanensis, but this report highlights three new cases caused by Leishmania (Viannia) naiffi, a species previously undocumented in the region.
  • The cases indicate a broader diversity of Leishmania infections in Surinam than initially understood.
  • Treatment with pentamidine was effective in addressing the infections caused by this newly identified species.
