We developed a new laser device using a composite-type optical fiberscope for laser surgery to treat twin-twin transfusion syndrome. The composite-type optical fiberscope (2.2 mm in external diameter) consists of a centrally located single fiber for laser treatment (0.1 mm in diameter) and its surrounding fibers for diagnosis. This fiberscope enables transmission of 40-W Yb fiber laser. The Yb fiber laser can be focused to 10mm focal length using two lenses on the tip of the fiberscope. In this research, we emitted the laser to in vivo porcine mesenteric vessel with blood flow both with an established laser fiber of 0.6-mm diameter (0.6-mm normal fiber) and with our composite-type optical fiberscope to compare the cautery performance of those devices. According to the experimental results, the composite-type optical fiberscope has a cautery efficiency equal to that of a 0.6-mm normal fiber, and it can contract the vein diameter about 35% as compared to the vein diameter before laser irradiation.

Background: Despite the improvements in optical properties of composite resins, their color stability is still a matter of concern. This study aimed to assess the curing time and intensity and polishing technique on color stability of bleach-shade composite resins.

Materials And Methods: In this , experimental study, 128 discs (1 mm × 8 mm) were fabricated from two composite resins.

The aims of this study were to evaluate the optical properties of flowable and injectable composites after polishing, such as translucency (translucency parameter [TP], TP), opalescence (OP-BW), chroma (C*ab), refractive index (RI), and change in surface roughness (Ra, Rz). Ninety disc-shaped samples were prepared from micro-hybrid, flowable, and injectable composites and divided into 3 groups according to the polishing systems (n=10). The RI was measured with an Abbe refractometer, and optical measurements were performed with a spectrophotometer.

Co/ZnO/Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Composite Anode Derived from Metal Organic Frameworks for Lithium Ion Batteries.

Polymers (Basel)

July 2022

Department of Chemical Engineering, R&D Center for Membrane Technology, Research Center for Semiconductor Materials and Advanced Optics, Chung Yuan Christian University, Taoyuan City 320, Taiwan.

Through high-temperature sintering and carbonization, two Co/ZnO nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NC) composites derived from ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 were manufactured for use as anodes for Li ion batteries: composite-type Co/ZnO-NC and core-shell-type Co@ZnO-NC. X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method were performed to identify the pore distribution and surface morphology of these composites. The findings of the BET method indicated that the specific surface area of Co/ZnO-NC was 350 m/g, which was twice that of Co@ZnO-NC.

Shear-bond strength and optical properties of short fiber-reinforced CAD/CAM composite blocks.

Eur J Oral Sci

October 2021

Department of Biomaterials Science and Turku Clinical Biomaterial Center -TCBC, Institute of Dentistry, University of Turku, Turku, Finland.

The aim of this study was to assess the shear-bond strength (SBS) of resin-luting cement to experimental short fiber-reinforced CAD/CAM composite (SFRC) compared to conventional CAD/CAM (Cerasmart 270), 3D printed (GC TEMP PRINT, Pro3dure GR-17), and laboratory (Gradia Plus) composites. Moreover, translucency parameter values and light transmission were evaluated. For each of the five types of composites, discs were prepared (n = 16/group) and divided into subgroups (n = 8/group) according to surface treatment protocol (hydrofluoric acid or air-particle abrasion).

Surface properties of composites such as roughness and color impact periodontal health and aesthetic outcomes. Novel bulk-fill composites with improved functionality are being introduced and, in light of the existing variety of finishing/polishing procedures, research of their surface properties is warranted. Sixty discs were prepared from bulk-fill composites (Filtek™ Bulk Fill Posterior Restorative and Fill-Up™) and incremental-fill Filtek™ Z250.
