Interfacial solar vapor generation (ISVG) accompanied by photocatalytic degradation holds immense potential to mitigate water scarcity and pollution. Distinct from the two detached functional components (photothermal agent and photocatalyst) in a conventional evaporator, in this study, an all-in-one photothermal/catalytic agent, nitrogen-containing honeycomb carbon nanosheets (NHC), was engineered for synergistic high-efficiency steam generation and photocatalysis functions. It was demonstrated that the superoxide radical generated on the surface of NHC conferred its catalytic activity to the photodegradation of organic pollutants under full solar spectrum irradiation.

Heat stroke is characterised by hyperthermia and acute encephalopathy. We describe a rare case of classical heat stroke secondary to prolonged sauna use with multiorgan sequelae including seizures, liver injury, kidney injury, disseminated intravascular coagulation, rhabdomyolysis and type 2 myocardial infarction. The patient was treated with external cooling, intravenous fluid therapy and blood products, and made a full recovery without need for advanced organ support.

Lignocellulosic biorefinery technology requires minimum energy consumption and wastewater generation to overcome challenges in industrial applications. This study established a rigorous model and a comprehensive physical property database of dry biorefining process on Aspen Plus platform for production including L-lactic acid, citric acid, sodium sugar acids, amino acid, and ethanol based on the experimental data. Full evaporation of wastewater (FEW) approach was proposed to completely replaced the external steam supply, and significantly reduced the freshwater input by 67% ∼ 85% and wastewater generation by 64% ∼ 89%, depending on the specific products.

Particle-based systems have immense potential for combining thermal energy storage (TES) with renewable energy sources. The so-called sandTES system, which is an active TES system, utilizes sand or other small particles as a storage material and consists of a hot tank, a cold tank, and a reversible fluidized bed heat exchanger. In the preferred design, the tubes are arranged in horizontal serpentine tube bundles; thus, the headers are positioned vertically, for one phase subcritical, two-phase and supercritical water/steam conditions.
