Femoral shaft fractures through a tracker pin site after computer navigated total knee arthroplasty are being increasingly reported. All previously reported fractures have occurred within 3 months of surgery, and thus, any patient with an unexpected thigh pain during the early postoperative period should be carefully monitored for a potential fracture and receive appropriate follow-up care. However, unlike these fractures, we encountered a navigation pin-associated delayed femoral shaft fracture during the late postoperative period (at 12 months postoperatively), which we believe, might be associated with transcortical drilling marks.

Purpose: Hinge fractures show a relatively high incidence in varus and valgus distal femoral osteotomy (DFO) and can lead to delayed- or non-union. Another observed complication of a hinge fracture is an unintentional change of the postoperative femoral torsion of up to + 9.5° in conventionally performed DFO.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDelayed fracture healing (DFH), a common complication of post-fracture surgery, exhibits an incompletely understood pathogenesis. The present study endeavors to investigate the roles and underlying mechanisms of miR-656-3p and Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 (BMP-2) in DFH. It was recruited 94 patients with normal fracture healing (NFH) and 88 patients with DFH of the femoral neck.

This study investigates the role of flavonoid Icaritin (ICT) in estrogen-deficient ovariectomized (OVX) female mice by activating the Estrogen receptor (ER)/ Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway, potentially delaying Parkinson's disease (PD) progression post-castration. Seventy-five 8-week-old C57BL/6J female mice underwent ovariectomy, followed by MPTP (20 mg/kg) injection for 7 days. ICT (20 mg/kg) was administered for 14 days, and motor function was assessed using various behavioral tests.

: Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) presents challenges in treatment due to its varied course and unclear etiology. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combining proximal femoral varus osteotomy (PFVO) with a modified trochanteric flip osteotomy to address biomechanical consequences and improve hip abductor muscle strength. : We present a modified approach combining PFVO with a trochanteric flip osteotomy.

Background: Although delays in musculoskeletal care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are well documented in the open fracture literature, the impact of surgical delays on closed fractures is not well understood. This study aimed to assess the impact of surgical delay on the risk of infection in closed long-bone fractures treated with intramedullary nailing in LMICs.
Methods: Using the SIGN (Surgical Implant Generation Network) Surgical Database, patients ≥16 years of age who were treated with intramedullary nailing for closed diaphyseal femoral and tibial fractures from January 2018 to December 2021 were identified.
