Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of tumor M2 pyrurate kinase (Tu-M2-PK) as a tumor marker in patients with pre-invasive (CIN), invasive (PCC) and recurrent (RCC) cervical cancer.

Materials And Methods: Plasma samples were investigated from 125 patients, comprising 50 cases of CIN (I-III), 51 of PCC (FIGO I-IV) and 24 of RCC, before treatment. Tu-M2-PK levels were determined by using a quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay.

Results: With the increase in disease severity from CIN to PCC to RCC, levels of Tu-M2-PK significantly increased (p<0.001). Levels of Tu-M2-PK significantly increased with respect to the FIGO stage (p<0.001) and had significantly higher values in node+ patients (p=0.028). There was no significant difference in Tu-M2-PK levels in CIN I-III patients (p=0.626). Patients with distant metastasis had significantly elevated levels of Tu-M2-PK (p<0.001).

Conclusion: Tu-M2-PK can be used as a marker to differentiate between malignant and premalignant cervical lesions. In addition, the concentration of Tu-M2-PK correlates with the clinical stage of the disease.

Natural killer (NK) cells can control metastasis through cytotoxicity and IFN-γ production independently of T cells in experimental metastasis mouse models. The inverse correlation between NK activity and metastasis incidence supports a critical role for NK cells in human metastatic surveillance. However, autologous NK cell therapy has shown limited benefit in treating patients with metastatic solid tumors.

Hepatocellular cancer (HCC) therapy is in need for an ideal companion diagnostic. Preclinical experimental studies have identified the insulin receptor (IR) and its synergistic counterpart, the IGF1 receptor (IGF1R), as relevant in HCC development, and the ligands IGF1 and IGF2 have been found to be elevated in HCC. This study aimed to bridge the gap to the clinical setting and explore whether the IR or the IGF1R would be of prognostic significance and would be associated with clinicopathologic parameters in HCC patients.

Background: Studies have shown that tumor cell amino acid metabolism is closely associated with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) development and progression. However, the comprehensive multi-omics features and clinical impact of the expression of genes associated with amino acid metabolism in the LUAD tumor microenvironment (TME) are yet to be fully understood.

Methods: LUAD patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were enrolled in the training cohort.

Department of Ultrasound Diagnosis, The Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, China (M.Z., K.T.). Electronic address:

Rationale And Objectives: The association between hypoechoic halos and thyroid cancer in patients with thyroid nodules remains a contentious issue. The objective of this study was to examine the potential correlation between the thickness of hypoechoic halos and the presence of thyroid cancer in individuals with thyroid nodules.

Methods: The study retrospectively analyzed a cohort of 320 patients with thyroid nodules presenting hypoechoic halos from January 2019 to December 2022.

SPP1+ macrophages promote head and neck squamous cell carcinoma progression by secreting TNF-α and IL-1β.

J Exp Clin Cancer Res

December 2024

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial-Head and Neck Oncology, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a very aggressive disease characterized by a heterogeneous tumor immune microenvironment (TIME). Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) constitute the major innate immune population in the TIME where they facilitate crucial regulatory processes that participate in malignant tumor progression. SPP1 + macrophages (SPP1 + Macs) are found in many cancers, but their effects on HNSCC remain unknown.
