While murine and human EGF-receptor (EGF-R) bind mammalian EGF with high affinity their chicken counterpart has approximately 300 fold reduced binding affinity towards mammalian EGF. We now cloned and sequenced the extracellular ligand binding domain of murine EGF-R in order to define the amino-acids which comprise the binding site for EGF. Comparison of human, murine and chicken EGF-R allows the identification of amino acid substitutions which are conservative and would not affect EGF binding, substitutions which are responsible for the low affinity binding of EGF to chicken EGF-R and those responsible for the high affinity binding of EGF to mammalian EGF-R. This analysis will enable future design of point mutations in the EGF-R which will restore the high affinity binding for EFG typical of human or murine EGF-R.

Ofloxacin, a commonly prescribed antibiotic, raises serious environmental concerns due to its persistence in aquatic systems. This study offers new insights into the environmental behavior of ofloxacin and its interactions with carbon-based adsorbents with the aim of enhancing our understanding of its removal mechanisms via adsorption processes. Using a comprehensive computational approach, we analyzed the speciation, pK values, and solubility of ofloxacin across various pH conditions, accounting for all four microspecies, including the often-overlooked neutral form.

Objectives: Mesothelin (MSLN) is an antigen that is overexpressed in various cancers, and its interaction with tumor-associated cancer antigen 125 plays a multifaceted role in tumor metastasis. The serum MSLN expression level can be detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; however, non-invasive visualization of its expression at the tumor site is currently lacking. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a molecular probe for imaging MSLN expression through positron emission tomography (PET).

Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction (XZD) is widely used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The purpose of this study was to explore the pharmacological effects and molecular mechanisms of XZD in improving hyperlipidemia and to provide a theoretical framework for clinical application. In this study, the signaling pathways regulated by XZD in improving hyperlipidemia were predicted by network pharmacology.

Membrane-based gas separation provides an energy-efficient approach for the simultaneous CO and HS removal from sour natural gas. The fluorinated polyimide (PI) membranes exhibited a promising balance between permeability and permselectivity for sour natural gas separation. To further improve the separation efficiency of fluorinated PI membranes, a melamine-copolymerization synthetic approach is devised that aims to incorporate melamine motifs with high sour gas affinity into the structure of the PI membranes.

Fluorescence polarization (FP) is a useful technique to study the interactions between carbohydrates and proteins in solution, by using standard equipment and minimal sample consumption. Here, we will review the most recent FP-based approaches in this field, including the study of carbohydrate-lectin, carbohydrate-enzyme and glycosaminoglycan-protein interactions. Advantages and limitations of this methodology will be discussed.
