Unlabelled: BACKGROUND; Benign fibrous histiocytoma (BFH) of bone is a very rare tumor, and almost all reported cases were diagnosed after surgical resection by histologic examination. We report a case in which cytologic features of BFH of bone were established preoperatively by fine needle aspiration (FNA). To the best of our knowledge, FNA findings of BFH of bone have not been previously reported.

Case: A 30-year-old man presented with pain in the right knee of 3 days' duration. Radiographs of the distal femur showed a lytic lesion. FNA biopsy followed by cytologic examination revealed highly cellular smears with spindle-shaped cells arranged in sheets, papillary fronds and storiform pattern. These cells had a moderate amount of cytoplasm and round to elongated nuclei with inconspicuous nucleoli. Multinucleate giant cells were occasionally seen. A cytologic diagnosis of Giant cell tumor of bone with a BFH component was rendered. Histology revealed a pure BFH of bone.

Conclusion: The current case reveals the cytomorphologic features of BFH of bone. Cytology may permit the preoperative recognition of the lesion, allowing a more sound therapeutic approach.

Low back pain (LBP) is a global issue involving biological, psychological, and social factors. Pain-related fear has been shown to influence movement behavior, however, its association with some measures of movement behavior, such as spinal movement variability, remains inconclusive. To further investigate this, spinal kinematics during various activities of daily living (i.

Detection of cancer early, when it is most treatable, remains a significant challenge because of the lack of diagnostic methods sufficiently sensitive to detect nascent tumors. Early-stage tumors are small relative to their tissue of origin, heterogeneous, and infrequently manifest in clinical symptoms. The detection of early-stage tumors is challenging given the lack of tumor-specific indicators (ie, protein biomarkers, circulating tumor DNA) to enable detection using a noninvasive diagnostic assay.

Neuromuscular alterations are reported in patients with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL-R) and conservative treatment (copers with ACL deficiency, ACL-C). However, it is unclear whether sex influences neuromuscular control. The objective was to investigate differences in neuromuscular control regarding sex and treatment type one year after ACL rupture in comparison to a group with an intact ACL (ACL-I).

Validation of Three Tools for Estimating the Risk of Primary Osteoporosis in an Elderly Male Population in Beijing.

Clin Interv Aging

June 2023

Department of Orthopedics, Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: This cross-sectional study estimated three clinical tools including the Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool for Asians (OSTA), Body Mass Index (BMI), and Beijing Friendship Hospital Osteoporosis Self-assessment Tool for Elderly Male (BFH-OSTM) for identifying primary osteoporosis and found optimal cut-off values in an elderly Han Beijing male population.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study, enrolling 400 community-dwelling elderly Han Beijing males aged ≥50 from 8 medical institutions. Osteoporosis was diagnosed as a T-score of -2.

Objectives: To validate and compare four tools, the Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX) without bone mineral density (BMD), Beijing Friendship Hospital Osteoporosis Screening Tool (BFH-OST), Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool for Asians (OSTA), and BMD, to identify painful new osteoporotic vertebral fractures (PNOVFs).

Methods: A total of 2874 postmenopausal women treated from June 2013 to June 2022 were enrolled and divided into two groups: patients with PNOVFs who underwent percutaneous vertebroplasty (PNOVFs group, n = 644) and community-enrolled females (control group, n = 2230). Magnetic resonance and X-ray imaging were used to confirm the presence of PNOVFs.
