Kinetic models of voltage-dependent ion channels are normally inferred from time records of macroscopic current relaxation or microscopic single channel data. A complementary explorative approach is outlined. Hysteretic conductance refers to conductance delays in response to voltage changes, delays at either macroscopic or microscopic levels of observation. It enables complementary assessments of model assumptions and gating schemes of voltage-dependent channels, e.g. independent versus cooperative gating, and multiple gating modes. Under the Hodgkin-Huxley condition of independent gating, and under ideal measurement conditions, hysteretic conductance makes it also possible to estimate voltage-dependent rate functions. The argument is mainly theoretical, based on experimental observations, and illustrated by simulations of Markov kinetic models.

The retention and mobility of arsenic (As) in soil depend on various physical and chemical factors. The knowledge of the sorption-desorption chemistry of As in soil is necessary for predicting the fate and behavior of As in soil environments. Therefore, this study assessed different organic (sugarcane bagasse and vermicompost) and inorganic amendments (steel slag and fly ash) for their impact on sorption-desorption of As in texturally different contaminated soils (of sandy clay (SC) and sandy clay loam (SCL) texture) to understand the effect of amendments on As retention and mobility.

A Two-Dimensional Superconducting Electron Gas at LaFeO/SrTiO Interfaces.

Nano Lett

January 2025

National Laboratory of Solid State Microstructures, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Artificial Functional Materials, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210023, P. R. China.

Transition metal oxide interfaces have garnered great attention due to their fascinating properties that are absent in their bulk counterparts. The high mobility and coexistence of superconductivity and magnetism at these interfaces remain compelling research topics. Here, we first report superconductivity in the 2DEG formed at the LaFeO/SrTiO interfaces, characterized by a superconducting transition temperature () of 333 mK and a superconducting layer thickness of 13.

Single-Molecule Magnet Behavior in a Tb-Nitronyl Nitroxide Radical Network with [Tb(NIT)] Nodes.

Inorg Chem

December 2024

Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination du CNRS (LCC-CNRS), Université de Toulouse, CNRS, Toulouse 31062, France.

Two rare two-dimensional Ln-radical networks, namely, [{Ln(tfa)}(NIT-4Py)] [Ln = Gd and Tb ; tfa = trifluoroacetylacetonato; and NIT-4Py = 2-(4-pyridyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-oxide], have been successfully constructed and characterized. In these complexes, each NIT-4Py radical functions as a tridentate ligand to ligate three Ln ions, creating a 2D network with linear five-spin [Ln(NIT)] nodes. Ferromagnetic Ln-NO interactions govern the characteristic magnetic behavior of a finite spin system.

Compared with the traditional frame structures, the novel composite frame with replaceable steel links can realize the rapid recovery of building occupancy after seismic actions to provide the capacity of reducing structural damage and ensure the reuse of a structure. In this system, plastic deformation and damage mainly concentrated in the steel links serving as the structural fuses and other structural members still remained elastic or minor plastic, and then the damaged steel links can be easy for replace. In order to study the seismic performance of the replaceable steel links, a total of four test specimens with different short length ratios were designed.

Magnetic-Electrical Synergetic Control of Non-Volatile States in Bilayer Graphene-CrOCl Heterostructures.

Adv Mater

November 2024

International Center of Quantum Materials, School of Physics, Peking University, Beijing, 100871, P. R. China.

Anti-ferromagnetic insulator chromium oxychloride (CrOCl) has shown peculiar charge transfer and correlation-enhanced emerging properties when interfaced with other van der Waals conductive channels. However, the influence of its spin states to the channel material remains largely unknown. Here, this issue is addressed by directly measuring the density of states in bilayer graphene (BLG) interfaced with CrOCl via a high-precision capacitance measurement technique and a surprising hysteretic behavior in the charging states of the heterostructure is observed.
