Natriuretic peptides and their receptors are widely expressed in mammalian CNS and increasing evidence implicates them in the regulation of neural development, synaptic transmission and processing of information, and neuroprotection. Although the peptides have been mainly localized in neuronal populations they are also produced in glial cells. Astroglia and microglia also express functional natriuretic peptide receptors that can regulate important physiological responses. In this article we review evidence on the localization of natriuretic peptides and their receptors in astroglial and microglial cells and summarize data supporting the participation of this signalling system in neuron-glia and glia-brain blood vessel communication relevant to CNS function.

The aim of this study was to identify the association between handgrip strength and cardiorespiratory endurance while highlighting the importance of the musculoskeletal system in cardiac rehabilitation for patients with heart failure. An observational cross-sectional study was conducted at Harapan Kita Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia, from April 2022 to April 2023, among patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) attributed to cardiomyopathy or coronary artery disease.

We investigated the impact of trimetazidine treatment on left ventricular (LV) functions and cardiac biomarkers in diabetic patients with diastolic dysfunction as an early stage of diabetic cardiomyopathy. Sixty-three patients were randomly assigned to receive either trimetazidine or a placebo for 3 months. At baseline and after 3-months of treatment, measurements of serum levels of glycemic control parameters, lipid profile, tumor necrosis factor alpha, transforming growth factor beta 1, n-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide and assessment of modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) dyspnea score, echocardiographic indices of LV functions and LV global longitudinal strain (GLS) were performed.
