Background And Objective: Coronary artery bypass graft surgery in high-risk patients may be associated with postoperative renal dysfunction. N-Acetylcysteine is a powerful antioxidant and has been used to prevent contrast-induced renal dysfunction. The efficacy of N-acetylcysteine in preventing postoperative renal dysfunction following off-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery was studied.

Methods: A prospective, randomized, controlled study was conducted in patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass graft. The study group (37 patients) received N-acetylcysteine in the perioperative period, whereas the control group (37 patients) did not. The data obtained were analysed using the independent sample t-test (Student's t-test) and χ-test.

Results: There was no significant difference in the incidence of renal dysfunction between the two groups. Three patients (8.6%) in the N-acetylcysteine group and four (11.4%) in the control group developed renal dysfunction (P value was 1.00).

Conclusion: N-Acetylcysteine does not have any beneficial effect on renal function in high-risk patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass graft.

Introduction: End-stage renal failure has negative effects on sexual life, and solid kidney transplantation helps to recovery in sexuality. However, recovery in sexual life progresses slowly, and female recipients may need spousal support during this process. To examine the perceived spousal support and sexual lives of female kidney recipients in the aim of this study.

Objective: The C-reactive protein/Lymphocyte Ratio (CLR) is a novel biomarker whose role in the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between CLR and the prevalence of CKD.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included participants from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted between 1999 and 2010.

Background/aims: Digestive disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) are very common, predominant in females, and usually associated with intestinal barrier dysfunction, dysbiosis, and stress. We previously found that females have increased susceptibility to intestinal barrier dysfunction in response to acute stress. However, whether this is associated with changes in the small bowel microbiota remains unknown.

Jeune syndrome (JS), first described by Jeune as asphyxiating thoracic dystrophy, is an autosomal recessive osteochondrodysplasia with characteristic skeletal abnormalities and variable renal, hepatic, pancreatic, and ocular complications. Approximately 1 in every 100,000 to 130,000 babies is born with JS. Most patients with JS have respiratory distress due to inadequate lung development and many lose their lives due to respiratory failure.

Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the ability of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) to detect monosodium urate (MSU) crystal deposits in the kidneys and renal artery walls, and uric acid urolithiasis, in patients with gout and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Methods: Patients with gout and with stage 2-4 CKD were prospectively included in this cross-sectional study. Patients underwent renal, knee and feet DECT scans.
