Background: Undergoing an urgent valve surgical procedure to treat patients with tricuspid valve endocarditis carries a high risk of operative morbidity and mortality. Use of a percutaneous vacuum-assisted system to treat tricuspid valve endocarditis is an alternative to surgical procedures.
Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed data from 187 transcatheter vacuum-assisted aspiration procedures performed in 177 patients with tricuspid valve vegetations at 3 different centers between 2017 and April 2022.

Massive material injections in the JET tokamak have been observed to substantially affect resistive bolometer measurements, resulting in a spurious radiated power signal proportional to the quantity injected and reaching up to 8 MW. These bolometers are calibrated and designed to operate in near vacuum but certain scenarios requiring large gas injections can push the neutral pressure past nominal values. This study demonstrates that the bolometry measurement can be affected at neutral pressures above 0.

To assess the mechanical properties of small intestinal submucosal extracellular matrix (SIS-ECM) iterations and choose the optimal version for evaluating functional geometrics after posterior mitral valve reconstruction. Four SIS-ECM versions (2- and 4-ply vacuum-pressed and lyophilized) underwent uniaxial tensile testing. A posterior mitral valve reconstruction patch was developed based on MRI scans (n = 5).

Background: Inhaled sedation is increasing in ICUs, with active carbon filters (ACFs) commonly used for evacuating halogenated gases. However, the potential benefits of a waste anesthetic gas system (WAGS) similar to the ones used in operating rooms should be explored. To limit the suction over the flow sensor where the WAGS is connected on ICU ventilators, an anesthetic gas receiving system (AGRS) is required, constituting with the WAGS an active gas receiving and scavenging system (AGRSS).

Many biomedical devices are powered and controlled by electrical components. These electronics add to the cost of a device (possibly making the device too expensive for use in resource-limited or point-of-care settings) and can also render the device unsuitable for use in some environments (for example, high-humidity areas such as incubators where condensation could cause electrical short circuits, ovens where electronic components may overheat, or explosive or flammable environments where electric sparks could cause serious accidents). In this work, we show that pneumatic logic can be used to power and control biomedical devices without the need for electricity or electric components.
