The inflammatory response of lung tissue and abnormal proliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells are involved in the pathogenesis of high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Halofuginone (HF), an active ingredient derivative of Chang Shan (Dichroa febrifuga Lour. [Hydrangeaceae]), has antiproliferative, antihypertrophic, antifibrotic, and other effects, but its protective effects on HAPH remains unclear.

Research establishing factors associated with duration of mechanical ventilation after Tetralogy of Fallot repair, is mainly based on population presenting at early infancy. There are fewer reports regarding repair after infancy, during childhood and preadolescence. To compare two groups of late TOF repair based on post-operative invasive mechanical ventilation duration and explore associations with pre-operative clinical markers of severity of right ventricular outflow tract obstruction.

Background: Reduced insulin secretion is linked to diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD), but its role in non-diabetic CVD patients is unclear. The homeostasis model assessment of β-cell function (HOMA-β) measures pancreatic β-cell function. This study investigated the association between HOMA-β and adverse cardiovascular events in non-diabetic CVD patients.

Purpose: The underlying mechanism why segmentectomy has demonstrated the non-inferiority to lobectomy in several randomized trials remains unclear. Computed tomography (CT)-measured pulmonary artery (PA) enlargement reflects PA pressure and predicts the prognosis of certain respiratory diseases. We compared the preoperative and postoperative PA diameter to the ascending aorta diameter (PA/A) ratio, investigating its impact on right ventricular function in lung resection.

Our patient presented to the emergency room following a motor vehicle accident. The traumatic tricuspid valve rupture was diagnosed by transthoracic echocardiogram, and his respiratory status declined rapidly. He was placed on veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV ECMO) to bridge him to surgical repair.
