A 79-year-old man presented with impaired consciousness, fever with a body temperature of 41.1°C, and an electrocardiogram showing significant ST segment elevation in leads V1-6, coved-type ST elevation in leads V1-3, and partial right bundle branch block. Echocardiography revealed notable left ventricle dysfunction with apex-based akinesis.

Swine are frequently used in medical research given their similar cardiac physiology to that of humans. Measuring cardiac parameters such as stroke volume and cardiac output are essential in this type of research. Contrast ventriculography, thermodilution, and pressure-volume loop (PV-loop) catheters can be used to accurately obtain cardiac performance data depending on which resources and expertise are available.

Background: The long-term effects of transient hypothermia by the non-invasive ThermoSuit apparatus on myocardial infarct (MI) scar size, left ventricular (LV) remodeling, and LV function were assessed in rat MI model.
Methods And Results: Rats were randomized to normothermic or hypothermic groups (n=14 in each group) and subjected to 30 minutes coronary artery occlusion and 6 weeks of reperfusion. For hypothermia therapy, rats were placed into the ThermoSuit apparatus at 2 minutes after the onset of coronary artery occlusion, were taken out of the apparatus when the core body temperature reached 32°C (in ≈8 minutes), and were then allowed to rewarm.

Background: Central fever (CF) is defined as elevated temperature with no identifiable cause. We aimed to identify risk factors for developing CF among patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and to evaluate the impact of CF on outcome.
Methods: Patients included in our prospective stroke registry between 1/1/09 and 1/10/10 were studied.

Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) are a promising resource for cell transplantation therapy for damaged heart tissue. Cell death in the graft early after transplantation represents the main cause of unsatisfactory therapeutic efficacy, but tissue-engineered cell sheets grown in temperature-responsive cell culture dishes may enable improved engraftment of transplanted cells. We investigated the therapeutic potential of this method in chronic myocardial ischemia in swine.
