Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed three local chicken ecotypes in Ghana—Interior Savannah, Forest, and Coastal Savannah—using morphological traits and genetic data.
  • Significant effects of ecotype and sex were found on body weight, with the Interior Savannah chickens being the heaviest.
  • Despite exhibiting high genetic diversity, the three ecotypes showed similar morphological traits, and limited instances of heat-resistant feather phenotypes were noted.

Sinomenine (SN) is a well-documented unique plant alkaloid extracted from many herbal medicines. The present study evaluates the wound healing potentials of SN on dorsal neck injury in rats. A uniform cut was created on Sprague Dawley rats (24) which were arbitrarily aligned into 4 groups receiving two daily topical treatments for 14 days as follows: A, rats had gum acacia; B, rats addressed with intrasite gel; C and D, rats had 30 and 60 mg/ml of SN, respectively.

The extent of diversity in the indigenous chicken breeds of Uganda was assessed for their potential utilisation in breeding programmes. A total of 293 indigenous-chicken-keeping households in villages across 35 districts forming 12 sub-regions of the four regions were randomly sampled for 586 mature chickens of both sexes. While only 20.

Dairy goats are significant livestock that provide high-quality milk sources in the world. The wattles trait is an evident phenotypic character on the neck of a dairy goat, which is considered to be under genetic control. We collected samples of 189 dairy goats, including 94 with wattles and 95 without wattles, from four different farms and multiple dairy goat breeds.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the genetic background of goat wattles, a trait represented by ectopic cartilage found predominantly on their neck, through genomic analysis of 38 goats from two Southwest Chinese breeds.
  • - Researchers utilized wide-genome selective sweep analysis (WGSA) and genome-wide association study (GWAS), identifying 500 candidate genes and linking three major chondrogenesis-related pathways, as well as specific genes that play crucial roles in cartilage development.
  • - Findings suggest that the inheritance of wattles in goats is likely influenced by a combination of multiple genes, providing new insights into the genetic factors underlying this unique phenotype.
