The thickness dependent optical and electronic structure of para-sexiphenyl thin films grown on TiO(2)(110) at around 400 K reveals that the substrate is first wet by one monolayer of molecules lying with their long axis parallel to the [001] direction of the substrate, while the molecules in subsequent layers are almost standing upright. Whilst ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS) is sensitive to the molecules in the outermost layer, reflection difference spectroscopy (RDS) shows that the molecules at the buried interface do not dewet and maintain the orientation of the original wetting monolayer.

The coffee-ring effect, caused by uneven deposition of colloidal particles in perovskite precursor solutions, leads to poor uniformity in perovskite films prepared through large-area printing. In this work, the surface of SnO is roughened to construct a Wenzel model, successfully achieving a super-hydrophilic interface. This modification significantly accelerates the spreading of the perovskite precursor solution, reducing the response delay time of perovskite colloidal particles during the printing process.

Glycosylation is a critical post-translational modification that influences protein folding, stability and function. While extensively studied in extracellular and intracellular regions, glycosylation within transmembrane (TM) regions and at membrane interfaces remains poorly understood. This study aimed to map O- and N-glycosylation sites in these regions using a comprehensive database search and structural validation where possible.

Tin dioxide (SnO2) stands as a promising material for the electron transport layer (ETL) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) attributed to its superlative optoelectronic properties. The attainment of superior power conversion efficiency hinges critically on the preparation of high-quality SnO2 thin films. However, conventional nanoparticle SnO2 colloids often suffer from inherent issues such as numerous oxygen vacancy defects and film non-uniformity.

Micro actuators are widely used in NEMS/MEMS for control and sensing. However, most are designed with suspended beams anchored at fixed points, causing two main issues: restricted actuated stroke and movement modes, and reduced lifespan due to fatigue from repeated beam deformation, contact wear and stiction. Here, we develop an electrostatic in-plane actuator leveraging structural superlubric sliding interfaces, characterized by zero wear, ultralow friction, and no fixed anchor.

The paper presents the results of experimental and numerical tests on barrel vaults with backfill material. The thickness, internal span, and rise of the vaults were 125 mm, 2000 mm, and 730 mm, respectively. In experimental studies, vaults with backfill of expanded clay aggregate or granite aggregate were tested.
