Background: COPD ranks as the third leading global cause of mortality. Despite the widespread use of the BODE index and its variants for mortality prediction, their accuracy may be affected by factors like ethnicity, altitude and regional disparities. A new cultivar 'Hisui no Kaori' opens up a fragrant type of lettuce ( L.).

'Hisui no Kaori' is the first lettuce ( L.) cultivar characterized by a sweet fragrance, attributed to 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline with the same compound as in fragrant rice and soybean cultivars, as well as edible leaves and stem. Field cultivation trials established optimal planting distances at 30 cm between seedlings, with a fertilizer requirement of N = 150 kg/ha.

Background: High-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) is noncardiogenic pulmonary edema caused by exaggerated hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and abnormally high pulmonary artery pressure. Some patients who develop HAPE have more chances to develop HAPE again on reinduction to high altitude (HA). This was a pilot project to look for a suitable drug (acetazolamide, nifedipine, or tadalafil) that could be used prophylactically in HAPE patients on reinduction to HA.
