Large-scale arrays of aligned single viruses.

Adv Mater

Published: January 2010

The fabrication of single virus arrays is herein demonstrated using the direct printing of unmodified anti-M13 bacteriophage antibodies on silicon with nanometer resolution, widely variable feature pitch, and flow alignment of the viruses. Organization of virus-based systems into functional, addressable arrays has many technological applications, including micro-array technology and bottom-up nano-assemblies.

Massively parallel Hong-Ou-Mandel interference based on independent soliton microcombs.

Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interference is the foundation of quantum optics to test the degree of indistinguishability of two incoming photons, playing a key role in quantum communication, sensing, and photonic quantum computing. Realizing high-visibility HOM interference with massively parallel optical channels is challenging due to the lack of available natural optical references for aligning independent arrayed laser pairs. Here, we demonstrate 50 parallel comb-teeth pairs of continuous-wave weak coherent photons HOM interference using two independently frequency post-aligned soliton microcombs (SMCs), achieving an average fringe visibility over 46%.

Electronic address:

Preterm birth (PTB) remains a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, with inflammation-induced PTB posing a significant challenge due to its complex pathophysiology. To address this, we developed an in vitro platform utilizing hTERT-immortalized human myometrial (hTERT-HM) cells integrated with a multielectrode array (MEA) biosensing system and optical calcium imaging. Compared to primary uterine myometrial cells, hTERT-HM cells exhibit superior reproducibility, high scalability, and convenient manipulation, facilitating the consistent and large-scale investigations.

Optimal placement of high-channel visual prostheses in human retinotopic visual cortex.

Recent strides in neurotechnology show potential to restore vision in individuals afflicted with blindness due to early visual pathway damage. As neuroprostheses mature and become available to a larger population, manual placement and evaluation of electrode designs becomes costly and impractical. An automatic method to optimize the implantation process of electrode arrays at large-scale is currently lacking.

The advancement of epigenetics has highlighted DNA methylation as an intermediate-omic influencing gene regulation and phenotypic expression. With emerging technologies enabling the large-scale and affordable capture of methylation data, there is growing interest in integrating this information into genetic evaluation models for animal breeding. This study used methylome information from six dairy cows to simulate the methylation profile of 13,183 genotyped animals.

Background: Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has attracted much attention as a powerful detection and analysis tool with high sensitivity and fast detection speed. The intensity of the SERS signal mainly depended on the highly enhanced electromagnetic field of nanostructure near the substrate. However, the fabrication of high-quality SERS nanostructured substrates is usually complicated, makes many methods unsuitable for large-scale production of SERS substrates.
