Background/aims: The electrosurgical device ("Bovie") is widely used in various surgical fields. The aim of this study was to introduce a simple method only using Bovie in the trimming of soft tissues along the lesser and greater curvature in gastric cancer surgery.

Methodology: Thirty three patients with gastric adenocarcinoma who underwent distal gastrectomy were enrolled in this study between May 2008 and July 2008.

Results: There was no significant difference in the total number of vessels along the lesser and greater curvature between the two groups. The time required (sec) for clearing of the soft tissue along the lesser and greater curvature is significantly shorter in the Bovie group than conventional group. The mean blood loss of Bovie group was 142 +/- 52 (ml) and 159 +/- 44 (ml) in the conventional group, and there was no significant blood loss between the two groups (p = 0.333). Postoperative complications occurred in 6 (18.2 %) patients, including one pneumonia, three wound infection, one postoperative ileus, and two intra-abdominal abscesses.

Conclusions: A simple method using Bovie in the trimming of the lesser and greater curvatures is a feasible and convenient method that can shorten operation time in gastric cancer surgery.

Soybean cyst nematode (SCN, ) is a devastating pest affecting soybean production worldwide. Host resistance is one of the primary practices used to manage SCN. The locus contributes to the strong and effective SCN resistance, with resistance levels predominantly governed by copy number variations (CNVs) and, to lesser extent, sequence variations.

Importance: The Affordable Care Act (ACA) expanded Medicaid and Marketplace insurance to nonelderly adults in 2014, but whether these policies improved outcomes later in life is unknown.

Objective: To examine whether exposure to ACA expansions during middle age (50-64 years) was associated with changes in health, utilization, and spending after these adults entered Medicare at 65 years of age.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This serial analysis of the Health and Retirement Study cohort linked to Medicare enrollment and claims data from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2018.

Background Toothbrush manufacturers commonly use bristle materials such as nylon, polybutylene terephthalate, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, boar hair, bamboo, carbon fiber, silicone, polylactic acid, or their modifications such as Curen. Nylon filaments have long been demonstrated to be durable and are widely used, but not much is known regarding the performance of Curen filaments compared to nylon filaments. This in vitro study compared the stiffness, abrasion potential, abrasion resistance, and bristle surface changes of Curen and nylon filaments.

Universidade de São Paulo, Faculty of Public Health, Postgraduate Degree in Public Health - São Paulo (SP), Brasil.

Objective: To identify clusters of high and low risk for the occurrence of leptospirosis in space and space-time in Acre, between 2001 and 2022, as well as to characterize temporal trends and epidemiological profiles of the disease in the state.

Methods: An ecological study of cases mandatorily reported by health services in Brazil. For the analysis of clusters in space and space-time, the SaTScan software was used, which calculated the relative risks (RR).

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.

Objective: To (1) determine whether preoperative neck pain improves after laminoplasty for cervical myelopathy and identify factors that could predict improvements in neck pain.

Methods: A total of 88 patients with preoperative neck pain visual analogue scale (VAS) of ≥4, who underwent laminoplasty for cervical myelopathy, and were followed-up for >2 years were retrospectively reviewed.
