Background: Correct positioning of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) is essential to avoid complications. We evaluated intravenous electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings during PICC placement to assess the effectiveness of this guidance technique to reduce complications resulting from incorrect catheter placement.
Methods: Six patients undergoing PowerPICC catheter insertion were included in this pilot study. Venography through the PICC was performed to identify the superior vena cava-right atrial (SVC-RA) junction. Unipolar ECG recordings from the catheter stylet measured P-wave changes during PICC insertion.
Results: The peak P-wave amplitude was highest at the SVC-RA junction. With catheter insertion into the RA, P-wave amplitude decreased and eventually became negative. With catheter withdrawal into the SVC, P-wave amplitude decreased.
Conclusions: P-wave amplitude was highest when the PICC catheter was in the optimal location at the SVC-RA junction. Intravenous ECG monitoring during PICC insertion seems to be a promising technique to guide catheter positioning.

Aims: Glucosamine, a widely used dietary supplement, has been linked to potential cardiovascular risks, including atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aimed to investigate the effects of long-term glucosamine supplementation on AF susceptibility and the underlying mechanisms.
Materials And Methods: C57BL/6 J mice were treated with low-dose (15 mg/kg/day) or high-dose (250 mg/kg/day) glucosamine via drinking water for 6 weeks.

The Nile Delta, North Africa's leading gas-producing region, was the focus of this study aimed at delineating gas-bearing sandstone reservoirs from the Pleistocene to Pliocene formations using a combination of pre-stack inversion and rock physics analysis. This research employed seismic inversion techniques, including full-angle stack seismic volumes, well logs, and 3-D with rock physics modeling to refine volumes of P-wave velocity (Vp), S-wave velocity (Vs), and density. Traditional seismic attributes, such as far amplitude, proved insufficient for confirming gas presence, highlighting partial angle stacks, integrated the need for advanced methods.

Background: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is the most promising management method for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). The P wave in the electrocardiogram (ECG) represents atrial depolarization. This study aims to correlate P-wave parameters after PVI with outcomes.

Background: After acute myocardial infarction (AMI), it is common to observe new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF), which is often related to a negative prognosis. Some P-wave variables (P-wave duration [PWD], P-wave amplitude, and interatrial block [IAB]), reflecting the process of electrical and structural remodeling, could predict the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aimed to assess the predictive value of P-wave variables for post-AMI NOAF.

To enhance real-time S-wave detection in the railway earthquake early warning (EEW) system, we improved the existing short-term average/long-term average (STA/LTA) algorithm. This enhancement focused on developing a more robust and computationally efficient method. Specifically, we introduced noise reflecting P-wave amplitude information before the P-wave to better distinguish between P- and S-waves.
