Sources and Pathways of PFAS Occurrence in Water Sources: Relative Contribution of Land-Applied Biosolids in an Agricultural Dominated Watershed.

Environ Sci Technol

January 2025

Department of Agronomy, Ecological Sciences & Engineering Interdisciplinary Graduate Program, Purdue University, 915 Mitch Daniels Blvd, West Lafayette, Indiana 47907, United States.

This study evaluated PFAS occurrence in rural well water and surface water relative to land application of biosolids in a tile-drained agriculture-dominated watershed. Spatial data were used to identify potentially vulnerable rural wells based on their proximity to biosolid-permitted land and location with respect to groundwater flow. Water was collected from 103 private wells in Greater Tippecanoe County Indiana and 168 surface water locations within the Region of the Great Bend of the Wabash River watershed.

Purpose: To implement and evaluate deep learning-based methods for the classification of pediatric brain tumors (PBT) in magnetic resonance (MR) data.

Methods: A subset of the "Children's Brain Tumor Network" dataset was retrospectively used ( = 178 subjects, female = 72, male = 102, NA = 4, age range [0.01, 36.

We introduce our proprietary Materials Informatics (MI) technologies and our chemistry-oriented methodology for exploring new inorganic functional materials. Using machine learning on crystal structure databases, we developed 'Element Reactivity Maps' that displays the presence or the predicted formation probability of compounds for combinations of 80 × 80 × 80 elements. By analysing atomic coordinates with Delaunay tetrahedral decomposition, we established the concept of Delaunay Chemistry.

Background: Multi-omics features of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) can effectively improve the performance of non-invasive early diagnosis and prognosis of cancer. However, multimodal characterization of cfDNA remains technically challenging.

Methods: We developed a comprehensive multi-omics solution (COMOS) to specifically obtain an extensive fragmentomics landscape, presented by breakpoint characteristics of nucleosomes, CpG islands, DNase clusters and enhancers, besides typical methylation, copy number alteration of cfDNA.

Phosphate (P) is the plant macronutrient with, by far, the lowest solubility in soil. In soils with low P availability, the soil solution concentrations are low, often below 2 [µmol P/L]. Under these conditions, the diffusive P flux, the dominant P transport mechanism to plant roots, is severely restricted.
