Realistic modeling approaches of structure-function properties of CPPs in non-covalent complexes.

Published: December 2010

Transfers of cargoes into cells by means of carrier peptides are multi-steps biological phenomenon the mechanisms of which are unclear. We here discuss bases of realistic in silico molecular modeling approaches of the formation of non-covalent complexes considering CPPs and cargo diversities.

Evaluation of anion exchange resin for sorption of selenium (IV) from aqueous solutions.

BMC Chem

January 2025

Nuclear Chemistry Department, Hot Laboratories Center, Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority, P.O. 13759, Cairo, Egypt.

In this work, selenium (IV) ions were adsorbed from aqueous solutions by the strongly basic anion exchange resin Amberlite IRA-400. The morphology of the resin before and after Se(IV) sorption was investigated using different techniques such as energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). To determine the ideal sorption conditions, a batch approach was used to examine the variables affecting Se(IV) sorption performance, including pH, shaking time, adsorbent dosage, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) often leads to pain and functional limitations, impacting work and daily life. Physical activity (PA) is an important part of the treatment. Wearable activity trackers (WATs) offer a novel approach to promote PA but could also aid in finding a sustainable PA level over time.

Neuropathological contributions to grey matter atrophy and white matter hyperintensities in amnestic dementia.

Alzheimers Res Ther

January 2025

Laboratory for Clinical Neuroscience, Center for Biomedical Technology, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, IdISSC, Crta M40, km38, Madrid, 28223, Spain.

Background: Dementia patients commonly present multiple neuropathologies, worsening cognitive function, yet structural neuroimaging signatures of dementia have not been positioned in the context of combined pathology. In this study, we implemented an MRI voxel-based approach to explore combined and independent effects of dementia pathologies on grey and white matter structural changes.

Methods: In 91 amnestic dementia patients with post-mortem brain donation, grey matter density and white matter hyperintensity (WMH) burdens were obtained from pre-mortem MRI and analyzed in relation to Alzheimer's, vascular, Lewy body, TDP-43, and hippocampal sclerosis (HS) pathologies.

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a frequent health-threatening condition. Early reliable diagnosis of UTI helps to prevent misuse or overuse of antibiotics and hence prevent antibiotic resistance. The gold standard for UTI diagnosis is urine culture which is a time-consuming and also an error prone method.

Development and pilot testing of INTERVENER, a web-based tool to match barriers to the cancer continuum organization to evidence-based interventions.

BMC Health Serv Res

January 2025

Early Detection, Prevention & Infections Branch, International Agency for Research on Cancer, 25 Avenue Tony Garnier, Lyon, 69366 Cedex 07, France.

Background: Barriers to the cancer continuum organization and interventions to approach them have been identified; however, there is a lack of a tool matching them. Our aim was to develop a web-based tool to identify the main barriers to the process of the cancer continuum organization, and propose matched evidence-based interventions (EBI) to overcome them.

Methods: A questionnaire on barriers at six steps of the process of the cancer continuum organization was answered by collaborators.
