Although human metapneumovirus(hMPV) infection can induce severe symptoms in older adults or immunocompromised patients, it usually causes mild symptoms in young immunocompetent adults. The prevalence of hMPV infectious disease is highest during the late winter and early summer. We report a hypoxemic case of hMPV infection in a young immunocompetent man that occurred in the first autumn after the reclassification of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from Class 2 to Class 5.

In this study, we present for the first time the landscape of the lung microbiota in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia in Intensive Care Units in Saudi Arabia. DNA from 83 deep endotracheal aspirate lung samples was subjected to PacBio sequencing to identify pathogens in comparison with conventional diagnostic techniques. Patients on ventilation with pneumonia presented with similar lung flora to those of patients on ventilation without pneumonia.

Introduction: We investigated clinical and microbiological characteristics of invasive Haemophilus influenzae disease (IHD) during recent 20 years in the Minami Ibaraki Area.
Methods: H. influenzae strains isolated from the blood and the cerebrospinal fluid in 5 hospitals located in this area between 2001 and 2020 (the pre-vaccination period [PreVP]: 2001-2010, the post-vaccination period [PostVP]: 2011-2020) were consecutively collected.

(, Hi) is an opportunistic bacterium that colonizes the upper respiratory tract of humans and frequently causes meningitis, pneumonia, sepsis, and other severe infections in children. Early and accurate detection of is essential for effective diagnosis and treatment. In this study, we established a novel diagnostic method by integrating the CRISPR-Cas12a detection platform with multiple cross-displacement amplification (MCDA), termed the Hi-MCDA-CRISPR assay.
