Introduction: Mycobacterium gordonae is one of the least pathogenic of the mycobacteria. This pathogen may produce caseating or non-caseating granulomas, and skin lesions showing acute or chronic inflammation with scattered histiocytes and giant cells have been seen. The mortality rate is less than 0.1%. Mycobacterium gordonae may be a marker of severe immunosuppression in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus.
Case Presentation: We report a case of Mycobacterium gordonae infection in an 86-year-old woman and discuss the problems inherent to the identification and treatment of this emerging pathogen. Mycobacterium gordonae strain we isolated was resistant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole but sensitive to ciprofloxacin, and long term administration (six months) induced complete healing of the cutaneous abscesses.
Conclusion: Advanced laboratory diagnostic techniques have improved the isolation and identification of nontuberculous mycobacteria. The diagnosis requires a high index of clinical suspicion, as detection by conventional methods is difficult. To our knowledge, this patient is the first documented case of cutaneous infection from this pathogen in Italy.

The Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is a group of closely related nontuberculous mycobacteria that can cause various diseases in humans. In this study, genome sequencing, comprehensive genomic analysis, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of 66 MAC clinical isolates from King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand were carried out. Whole-genome average nucleotide identity (ANI) revealed the MAC species distribution, comprising 54 (81.

Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) are found extensively in various environments, yet most are non-pathogenic. Only a limited number of these organisms can cause various infections, including those affecting the lungs, skin, and central nervous system, particularly when the host's autoimmune function is compromised. Among these, Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria Pulmonary Diseases (NTM-PD) are the most prevalent.

In the past 20 years infections caused by Mycobacterioides abscessus have become increasingly common in patients with chronic lung conditions. The microorganisms are also resistant to a number of antibiotic classes, making treatment challenging. To begin understanding how the bacterium adapts to the lung environment, pure colonies of M.

Buruli ulcer (BU) a neglected disease induced by the bacterium Mycobacterium ulcerans, predominantly impacts tropical and subtropical areas with its pathophysiology ascribed to the Mycolactone protein. Current antibiotics frequently prove insufficient to manage advanced or chronic ulcers and the rise of drug resistance presents a considerable challenge. This work aims to address these challenges by employing computational methods to identify therapeutic candidates from organic compounds, which may be developed into more effective therapies for Buruli ulcer.

Background: The emergence of drug-resistant Tuberculosis (TB) has made treatment challenging. Although fluoroquinolones (FQs) are used as key drugs in the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), the problem of FQs resistance is becoming increasingly serious. Rifampicin (RIF) resistance is considered a risk factor for FQs resistance.
