Vitamin E is known as the most important lipid antioxidant and is widely used to prevent age-associated diseases. Despite increasing knowledge about human vitamin E metabolism, little is known to justify its widespread use. As meta-analyses revealed even harmful effects of high vitamin E doses, a profound understanding of vitamin E metabolism is mandatory. By recent advances in analytical methodology, new metabolites with distinct physicochemical and biological properties were discovered. This review covers current methods to analyze vitamin E metabolites in biological samples. Special emphasis is laid on analytical applications for the identification and quantification of metabolites with a modified hydroxychromanol ring or a truncated side chain.

Background: Multiple pregnancy constitutes a large metabolic expense, so women with twin pregnancies and neonates born as twins might be at risk for micronutrient deficiencies. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the supplementation used and supply with key micronutrients: iron, vitamin B12, folic acid and vitamin D in women with twin pregnancies and the correlations with cord blood indicators.
Methods: Maternal and cord blood samples were collected from 51 patients with twin pregnancies and 102 newborns born from those pregnancies between October 2020 and September 2023.

Background: Nicotinamide, a form of B3 vitamin, is an NAD precursor that reduces pTau levels via histone deacetylase inhibition in murine models of Alzheimer's disease (AD). A recent phase 2a randomized placebo-controlled trial tested high-dose oral nicotinamide for the treatment of early AD. While nicotinamide demonstrated good safety and tolerability, it did not significantly lower CSF pTau, the primary biomarker endpoint of the study.

The application of pesticides may have significant impacts on soil environment and communities. In order to understand the deep relationship between the application of chlormequat chloride (CC) and the bacterial community in peanut soil, high-resolution characterization was performed using peanut soil samples (12 points; 0-20 cm rhizosphere soil) from untreated and sprayed with different concentrations of CC. Experimental data showed that with the increase of concentration, operational taxonomic units (OTUs) richness showed a decreasing tendency.

Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is prevalent globally and in pediatric intensive care units, where it represents a modifiable risk factor that may impact patient recovery during hospitalization. Herein, we performed a retrospective analysis of serum samples from a phase-II randomized placebo-controlled trial involving a single large bolus of 10,000 IU/kg vitamin D3 ingested by critically ill children with VDD (25-OH-D < 50 nmol/L). Targeted and untargeted methods were used to comprehensively measure 6 vitamin D metabolites, 239 lipids, 68 polar metabolites, and 4 electrolytes using a multi-step data workflow for compound authentication.

Unlabelled: Potato common scab (CS) is a worldwide disease, caused by spp., and its presence reduces the market value of potatoes. A nontoxic and potentially effective approach in many control strategies is the use of antagonistic microbes as biocontrol agents.
