This paper describes the derivation of the preflight photometric calibration of the uv spectrometer on Skylab. The calibration of the orbiting instrument through cross-comparison with two rocket instruments is discussed in assessing the observed changes in response to quiet solar regions during the mission. Formulas are presented for the determination of the instrument sensitivity, and an uncertainty of +/-35% is assigned over most of the 296-1340-A wavelength range.

Environmental pollution caused by heavy metals are problems worldwide. In particular, pollution and poisoning by lead ions (Pb) continue to be common and serious problems. Hence, there is a need for a widely usable method to easily detect Pb from solutions containing organic materials from environmental water such as seas, ponds, etc.

The most widely used radiance sensor for monitoring Night Sky Brightness (NSB) is the Sky Quality Meter (SQM), making its measurement stability fundamental. A method using the Sun as a calibrator was applied to analyse the quality of the measures recorded in the Veneto Region (Italy) and at La Silla (Chile). The analysis mainly revealed a tendency toward reductions in measured NSB due to both instrument ageing and atmospheric variations.

The detection of adulteration in apple juice concentrate is critical for ensuring product authenticity and consumer safety. This study evaluates the effectiveness of artificial neural networks (ANN) and support vector machines (SVM) in analyzing spectroscopic data to detect adulteration in apple juice concentrate. Four techniques-UV-visible, fluorescence, near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, and time domain H nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry (H NMR)-were used to generate data from both authentic and adulterated apple juice samples.

Two versatile yet simple methods, colorimetric and spectrofluorimetric, were utilized for the quantitation of nonchromophore neomycin using silver nanoparticles modified with fluorescein. Fluorescein was excited at 485 nm (emission at 515 nm); when it is deposited on the surface of silver nanoparticles, its fluorescence intensity at 515 nm is quenched. Neomycin restores the fluorescence level at 515 nm by displacing fluorescein from nanoparticle binding sites.

Establishing a high-throughput detection technology for amino acid (AA) content in milk using mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy has profound implications for enhancing nutritional value of milk, identifying superior milk sources, producing specialty dairy products, and expanding Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) metrics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of MIR spectroscopy in predicting the content of 15 individual total AA (TAAs) and 16 free AA (FAAs) in bovine milk as well as to investigate the major factors affecting the phenotypic variability of AA content. From March 2023 to March 2024, 513 milk samples were collected from 10 Holstein dairy farms in China and analyzed using Bentley spectrometers for MIR measurements.
