Purpose: To assess the diagnostic efficacy of macular and peripapillary retinal thickness measurements for the staging of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and the prediction of disease progression.
Methods: In this prospective study, 149 diabetic patients (149 eyes) and 50 non-diabetic control subjects were included. Baseline optical coherence tomography was employed to measure retinal thickness in the macula (horizontal, vertical, and central) and the peripapillary zone (superior, inferior, nasal, and concentric to the optic disc). Seven baseline parameters were correlated with the DR stages identified by fluorescein angiography. Baseline retinal thickness was compared between groups of patients requiring panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) within 6 months (PRP group) and patients not requiring PRP (No-PRP group).
Results: Macular and peripapillary retinal thicknesses in diabetic subjects were significantly greater than that in normal controls (p<0.05). All retinal thickness parameters, and particularly peripapillary circular scans, tended to increase with increasing DR severity (p<0.05). The baseline thicknesses of the peripapillary circular scans were greater in the PRP group than in the no-PRP group (p<0.05).
Conclusions: Peripapillary retinal thickness may prove to be a useful criterion for DR severity and may also serve as an indicator of disease progression.

Purpose: This study aimed to comprehensively assess visual performance in eyes with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM). Additionally, it sought to explore the associations between optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging biomarkers and visual performance in patients with iERM.
Methods: In this prospective, non-interventional study, 57 participants with treatment-naïve iERM from the University of Turin, between September 2023 and March 2024 were enrolled.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze choroidal thickness (CT), along with macular thickness (MT), peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT), and macular vascular density (MVD) using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) in children with unilateral amblyopia, and compare the same with normal fellow eyes and normal eyes of normal children before and following occlusion therapy.
Materials And Methods: This was a prospective, longitudinal study of 60 children (4-18 years); 30 children had unilateral amblyopia and remaining 30 were normal. Group 1 consisted of 30 amblyopic eyes of children with unilateral amblyopia; Group 2 consisted of 30 fellow normal eyes of Group 1; Group 3 consisted of normal eyes of normal children.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of foveal bulge presence on visual acuity (VA) in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO).
Methods: Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) scans were conducted on 22 DME patients and 20 RVO patients. Ordinary least squares (OLS) regression was employed to analyze the association between VA and the presence of the foveal bulge, as well as factors such as sex, age, central foveal thickness, various line scans of the fovea, and the external limiting membrane (ELM).

Objective This study aims to evaluate the real-world efficacy of ranibizumab biosimilar (Ongavia), compared to aflibercept (Eylea), in the treatment of treatment-naïve neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) at a busy tertiary eye care centre. Methods A retrospective analysis of medical records from August 2022 to August 2024 was conducted, comparing treatment outcomes in treatment-naive nAMD patients who received either Ongavia or Eylea intravitreal anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) injections under a treat-and-extend protocol. Initial and 12-month outcome measures post-treatment initiation were collected, including best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central retinal thickness (CRT), prescribed treatment intervals, actual injection frequency, and the average total number of injections per eye over 12 months.

Glaucoma, a severe eye disease leading to irreversible vision loss if untreated, remains a significant challenge in healthcare due to the complexity of its detection. Traditional methods rely on clinical examinations of fundus images, assessing features like optic cup and disc sizes, rim thickness, and other ocular deformities. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence have introduced new opportunities for enhancing glaucoma detection.
