The opioid crisis has been an issue in the United States since the mid-1990s, claiming numerous lives and presenting a significant challenge to health care clinicians. Various preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative strategies aimed at reducing opioid consumption can be used by orthopaedic surgeons to help minimize this crisis. Preoperative screening tools can help identify patients at risk for prolonged opioid use, allowing for tailored interventions and counseling.

Introduction: Postpartum dairy cows are susceptible to negative energy balance caused by decreased feed intake and the initiation of lactation. Sijunzi San, a famous Chinese traditional herbal formulation, can promote gastrointestinal digestion and absorption and improve disorders of intestinal microbiota. Therefore, we hypothesized that Sijunzi San might alleviate negative energy balance in postpartum dairy cows by modulating the structure of the rumen microbiota and enhancing its fermentation capacity.

Background and objective Beta-blockers are a cornerstone in the management of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), effectively reducing myocardial oxygen demand, preventing recurrent ischemia, and lowering the risk of arrhythmias and reinfarction. Despite several established guidelines, such as those by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA), advocating their use within 24 hours for eligible patients, beta-blockers remain underutilized in clinical practice. This study aimed to analyze beta-blocker utilization patterns in ACS management and evaluate the impact of targeted improvement initiatives on their appropriate use in eligible ACS patients.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Cognitive dysfunction is a common complication of chronic insomnia. Liuwei Anshen Capsules (LAC), a traditional Chinese patent medicine clinically prescribed for insomnia, has been proved to possess good efficacy in reducing insomnia complications including dementia and anxiety in clinic.
