Children with hearing deficits frequently have delayed motor development. The purpose of this study was to evaluate saccular function in children with hearing impairments using the Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (VEMP). The impact of the saccular hypofunction on the timely maturation of normal balance strategies was examined using the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (Movement ABC). Thirty-three children with bilateral severe/profound hearing impairment between 4 and 7 years of age were recruited from a three-state area. Approximately half of the sample had one or bilateral cochlear implants, one used bilateral hearing aids, and the rest used no amplification. Parents reported whether the hearing impairment was diagnosed within the first year or after 2 years of age. No VEMP was evoked in two thirds of the hearing impaired (HI) children in response to the bone-conducted stimulus. Children who were reportedly hearing impaired since birth had significantly poorer scores when tested with the Movement ABC.

Thiamine responsive megaloblastic anemia (TRMA), also known as Roger's syndrome, is an exceptionally rare autosomal recessive disorder stemming from mutations in the SLC19A2 gene responsible for encoding a thiamine carrier protein. This syndrome manifests as the classic triad of megaloblastic anemia, sensorineural hearing loss, and diabetes mellitus. Here, we present the case of a one-and-a-half-year-old male infant born to non-consanguineous parents in India, a region where TRMA cases are seldom reported.

Background: Protocols instituted for behavioral treatment and skills training programs for the management of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) suffer from lack of collaborative approaches. The tenets of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) focus on preparing a panel of health care professionals (HCPs) from different professions who can work together to enable the common goal of ensuring that children with ASD can participate in society. This study was designed to pilot this approach through an IPCP training module on ASD for care providers from multiple professions.

To investigate the pathogenic variants and function of a pedigree with syndromic hearing loss using high-throughput sequencing. Detailed medical history and pedigree history were inquired, and a pedigree chart was drawn. Hearing examinations were performed on this pedigree, and whole-exome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were performed to screen for suspected pathogenic variants.

To investigate the clinical and genetic characteristics of nonsyndromic sensorineural hearing loss caused by biallelic variation. A child with hearing impairment who was diagnosed at Gansu Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital on May 2022 and was selected as the research object. Peripheral blood of the child and her parents was collected, genomic DNA was extracted.

This study aimed to compare the effects of cochlear implantation(CI) on vestibular function in patients with large vestibular aqueduct syndrome(LVAS) and in patients with extremely severe deafness with normal inner ear structure. A total of 28 LVAS patients and 28 patients with normal inner ear structure who suffered from extremely severe deafness were selected. The parameters of caloric tests, bone conduction evoked cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials(cVEMP), bone conduction evoked ocular vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials(oVEMP) and video head impulse tests(v-HIT) were compared between the two groups before and after CI.
