MicroRNA (miRNA) serves as an effective and viable biomarker for early diagnosis and monitoring of cancer disorders. It is highly expressed in tumor cells, including lung cancer, liver cancer and lymphoma. Herein, we propose a ratiometric electrochemical sensor for ultrasensitive detection of miRNA-21 using dual signal amplification, hybridization chain reaction and Exo III assisted-amplification.

Biodegradation of microplastics facilitated by natural marine biofouling is a promising approach for ocean bioremediation. However, implementation requires a comprehensive understanding of how interactions between the marine microbiome and dominant microplastic debris types (e.g.

Nonsense-Mediated mRNA Decay (NMD) is a key control mechanism of RNA quality widely described to target mRNA harbouring Premature Termination Codon (PTC). However, recent studies suggested the existence of non-canonical pathways which remain unresolved. One of these alternative pathways suggested that specific mRNA could be targeted through their 3' UTR (Untranslated Region), which contain various elements involved in mRNA stability regulation.

Sea spray aerosol (SSA) is a complex mixture of natural substances that can be inhaled by coastal residents. Previous studies have suggested that SSA may have positive effects on human health, but the molecular mechanisms and the factors influencing these effects are poorly understood. In this study, we exposed human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) to natural SSA samples, collected monthly using quartz microfiber filters mounted on tripods within 15 m of the waterline, with air drawn through pumps, throughout a one-year period at the Ostend coast, Belgium, and measured cellular gene expression changes using RNA sequencing.

The fusion expression of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) replication-related proteins with nucleotide deaminase enzymes promotes random mutations in bacterial genomes, thereby increasing genetic diversity among the population. Most previous studies have focused on cytosine deaminase, which produces only C → T mutations, significantly limiting the variety of mutation types. In this study, we developed a fusion expression system by combining DnaG (RNA primase) with adenine deaminase TadA-8e (DnaG-TadA) in , which is capable of rapidly introducing A → G mutations into the genome, resulting in a 664-fold increase in terms of mutation rate.
