Facile interconversion of mesitylcopper into a CuMes-Cubis(amidinate) triangle and a tetracuprous Möbius strip.

Chem Commun (Camb)

October 2024

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Kennesaw State University, 370 Paulding Avenue, MD 1203, Kennesaw, Georgia 30144, USA.

A new flexible bis(amidine) ligand featuring two additional N-donor groups incorporates a defined [CuMesCu] fragment from mesitylcopper into a triangular cluster with a reactive organometallic coordination site. Subtle changes to the reaction protocol result in the formation of an intertwined tetracuprous arrangement that adopts the shape of a Möbius strip.

Interconversion and functional composites of metal-organic frameworks and hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks.

Chem Commun (Camb)

August 2024

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Structure and Performance for Functional Molecules, College of Chemistry, Tianjin Normal University, No. 393, Binshui West Road, Tianjin, 300387, P. R. China.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), an emerging class of highly ordered crystalline porous materials, possess structural tunability, high specific surface area, well-defined pores, and diverse pore environments and morphologies, making them suitable for various potential applications. Moreover, hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs), constructed from organic molecules with complementary hydrogen-bonding patterns, are rapidly evolving into a novel category of porous materials due to their facile mild preparation conditions, solution processability, easy regeneration capability, and excellent biocompatibility. These distinctive advantages have garnered significant attention across diverse fields.

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive cutaneous cancer. Two new prenylated indole 2,5-diketopiperazine alkaloids, brevianamides E1 () and E2 (), were isolated from a fungus. Both compounds showed moderate cytotoxic activity against select MCC cell lines (i.

Oxidative addition (OA) is a necessary step in mechanisms of widely used synthetic methodologies such as the Heck reaction, cross-coupling reactions, and the Buchwald-Hartwig amination. This study pioneers the exploration of OA of aryl halide to palladium nanoparticles (NPs), a process previously unaddressed in contrast to the activity of well-studied Pd(0) complexes. Employing DFT modeling and semi-empirical metadynamics simulations, the oxidative addition of phenyl bromide to Pd nanoparticles was investigated in detail.

The soluble-to-toxic transformation of intrinsically disordered amyloidogenic proteins such as amyloid beta (Aβ), α-synuclein, mutant Huntingtin Protein (mHTT) and islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) among others are associated with disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), Huntington's disease (HD) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), respectively. The dissolution of mature fibrils and toxic amyloidogenic intermediates, including oligomers, continues to be the pinnacle in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders. Yet, methods to effectively and quantitatively report on the interconversion between amyloid monomers, oligomers and mature fibrils fall short.
