Objectives/hypothesis: AlloDerm (LifeCell Corp., Branchburg, NJ) is commonly employed for reconstruction of ablative soft tissue and mucosal defects following surgical resections. Although devoid of growth factors, AlloDerm may serve as an adhesive matrix for binding of growth factors, increasing local angiogenesis, and wound healing. We hypothesized that AlloDerm would enhance angiogenesis and might be altered with autologous blood products to enhance initiation of the angiogenic response.

Methods: We used a human placental vein in a fibrin-thrombin clot-based angiogenesis model. Four groups, human placental vein (HPVM), HPVM with AlloDerm, HPVM with AlloDerm plus platelet-poor plasma, and HPVM with AlloDerm plus platelet-rich plasma were evaluated. Endothelial cell growth was evaluated visually (40x). Hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunofluorescent staining for growth within the AlloDerm matrix were also performed. To assess human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) sites of attachment to AlloDerm, we incubated HUVEC cells with AlloDerm for a period of 2 weeks and evaluated attachment with anti-factor VIII immunofluorescence.

Results: Angiogenic initiation decreased in the combined placental vein with AlloDerm group (P < .0001 at day 7, 14, 21). Additionally, initiation in the AlloDerm plus platelet-poor plasma group was significantly better than the AlloDerm alone group when placentas 2 and 3 were compared (P < .0001). On hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunofluorescent factor VIII staining, no endothelial growth into the AlloDerm was noted in the samples analyzed.

Conclusions: AlloDerm may be enriched with platelet-poor plasma to stimulate greater initiation and wound healing; however, AlloDerm inhibits angiogenic initiation in this model.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer amongst women in the United Kingdom, with implant-based reconstruction (IBR) using Acellular Dermal Matrices (ADM) gaining popularity for post-mastectomy procedures. This study compares outcomes of different ADMs that are commonly used in women undergoing IBR, this was short and long-term complications.

Methods: A systematic search of MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, and CDSR databases was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines, focusing on women undergoing IBR with FlexHD, AlloDerm, Bovine, or Porcine ADMs.

Background: Acellular dermal matrices (ADM) are an adjunct in implant-based breast reconstruction. While clinical outcomes have generally been equivocal between brands, a cost analysis between these brands has yet to be conducted. This study reports a single, academic institution's experience with 2 ADM brands in breast reconstruction and provides data on clinical and financial outcomes.

Background: Real-world literature evaluating the use of AlloDerm SELECT Regenerative Tissue Matrix in head- and neck-related procedures is limited. To inform patient care decisions, this study evaluated healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) in US adults undergoing head- and neck-related procedures using AlloDerm.

Methods: A retrospective claims analysis was conducted using MarketScan Commercial and Medicare Supplemental Databases (study period: October 1, 2015, to March 31, 2022; index period: November 1, 2015, to March 1, 2022).

Capsular contracture of breast implants is a major complication in breast surgery. Clinically, covering a breast implant with acellular dermal matrix (ADM) or autologous tissue is considered to be the most effective technique to prevent capsular contracture. This study was designed to compare the protective effects of ADM and latissimus dorsi (LD) muscle flap placement on capsular contracture by increasing the rate of capsular contracture through controlled radiation exposure in a rabbit model.

Purpose: The use of "mesh" in implant-based reconstruction is widespread, with both acellular dermal matrices (ADMs) and extracellular matrices (ECMs) being used, especially in prepectoral device placement. This study compared Ovitex (ovine ECM) versus human cadaveric ADMs to determine safety profiles and cost-effectiveness.

Methods: A single surgeon's longitudinal experience with 2-stage, immediate tissue expander breast reconstruction from 2018 to 2023 was analyzed.
